Hello all

Recently I purchased about 500 berrys plated 45 cal 230 grain bullets
My plan was to reload for my 45 super and rowland however I'm reading that they don't work all that great for rowland because they need to be kept under 1200 fps so with that said I have a lot of bullets and a lot of longshot powder anyone have some recipes for plated bullets for under 1200

I use Rainier and Berry's 230 gr plated bullets and like them a lot. Probably doesn't do you any good, but I use 4.1 grains of IMR 700X. I want to try some Longshot with these plated bullets too, but I am unable to find any!! And the LGS seem to be able to keep 700X on the shelf pretty regular so I use it.
700X is pretty coarse and doesn't meter all that well and I'm told Longshot is a finer grained powder and meters excellently. So I'll be keeping an eye on this thread to see what people recommend for these bullets and Longshot.

You can push them up to around 1,250 fps and they'll still stabilize. I run Berry's right at 1,250 fps in my 357 Sig and 10mm. However, if you push them much past that, they'll strip the rifling and tumble.

Some of my warmer 10mm loads that are fine in my pistols, will tumble from my 10mm carbine, but I haven't had a chance to chronograph them from the carbine yet, but I'm assuming I'm getting a couple hundred FPS more velocity from the 16.25" barrel.

Hope this helps.

Thanks I have never really loaded plated bullets before do you follow hard cast bullets or ? Does it matter as long as the weight is the same

With some I use mid-range jacketed data, and with some others, I use full power jacketed data. You'll have to work up your own loads, and you'll know if you drive them too fast, as they'll tumble. Plated bullets are a soft lead core, and thin soft copper plating. If driven beyond their ability to hold the rifling, they'll strip through it.

Hope this helps.

I loaded some 45acp 230g RN xtreme bullets from the hodgdon data site, 6.8gr longshot, 908fps, 17,200 cup and they worked out really well. lots of pop! 1.200 col, winchester LPP.

first 5 through the crono
905
910
910
895
898

accuracy was pretty good with a 3" group at 10 yards
test subject was my Glock 36, stock everything.

couldnt get better than a 4" group with the starting load of 6.3gr
850 fps
850
847
853
850

The short little 3.77" barrel likes them hot!
