Check out my thread on percussion caps. " Making my own caps" & "making my own caps Up grade" it's not hard to do. I just made over 1000 caps in my spare time :D these are just the caps and are not charged yet. You can do it !

There are on line plans and if one can access a lathe, they can easily make their own.

I have access to a lathe, but with the Tap O Cap drawings I found, it seems that the lathe wasn't quite enough. If I recall, there was a circular ring of "grippers," or teeth, that somehow grab the aluminum, and I couldn't figure out how to cut them.

If you know of a simplified plan that doesn't require these gripper teeth, I sure would like to see it.

SleazyRider, a fellow named "Wicket" on the Castboolits forum came up with an interesting design which doesn't use the little teeth -

His cap-forming process is basically similar to raa-7's idea, but his machine executes all the steps with a pull of the lever.

I bought a Tap-O-Cap years ago with precisely the current scenario in mind. "What if it was hard to find percussion caps?? "
Never really thought that it would actually happen.
One also has to lay in a supply of good roll caps.

Then I discovered flintlocks.....
