Hey guys,
I'm looking to buy some H110 from midwayusa.com. I can't find it in stock anywhere locally or online, and according to midway, it drop ships from Hodgdon in 4-6 weeks. I was wondering if anyone has any experience ordering like this. 4-6 weeks is ok, but if its going to take significantly longer than that, I do not want to order from them.

Usually powder from Midway is dropped directly from Powder valley, who you can also order from directly. that is why folks complain when they order powder and primers from midway, as they get hit with TWO hazmat fees - one for the primers from Midway and the second for the drop shipment from PV.

You might check with PV directly

You need to learn that often there are other brands that are identical to the powder that you're using. In this case, Win296 is the identical powder to H110, and Hodgdon's website shows this with identical loads for each.

Alliant has their Power Pro 300-MP that some say is nearly the same as H-110, but I haven't seen a verification of this myself.
In these days of shortages, it's important to be aware of substitute powders, it could make the shortages easier to swallow.

The two haz-mat fees are unavoidable as I read the guidelines. Primers and powder are not to be shipped together which means two fees anyway.

False. Powder Valley will ship upto 48lbs for one hazmat fee, powder and primers together.

I've never ordered powder from Midway but if you call their customer service they'll tell you it ships directly from the manufacturer, not from Powder Valley. Of course, maybe Midway just doesn't want people to know it ships from Powder Valley but I'd imagine the shipping label could hint at who's actually shipping it.

They may be telling you that THEY don't ship primers and powder together, since they come from different places. That's why you pay two hazmats. But that's not a rule for the carrier. I've gotten primers and powder together many times from Recob's, 3rd Gen, etc., because they come from the same warehouse. Just keep looking. You'll find what you need.

If Midway will allow cancellation, I would order from Midway, but keep looking. 4-6 weeks is good in today's situation. Midway has always shot straight with me.

opps, already covered. Yes, multiple hazmat fees are avoidable, just not through midway. I do it with Recobs all the time.

So it looks like ordering from midway is kind of like back ordering from PV? With the high demand, and PV no longer accepting back order, I may go that route.

Why wait? I have been reloading about one year. I have thousands and thousands of primers, jars full of bullets, boxes and boxes of brass, 16 lbs of Unique, 2 lbls of HP-38, 2 pounds of HS-6, 5 lbs of Accurate No2, 9 lbs of H-335, 2 lbs of H-322, 1 lbs of Win 748 and others I'm not thinking of right now. Not one scrap, except one box of Rem. 9mm brass was from midway. I waited on powder, watched its delivery date go out and out, then date disappeared. When something does come in, its gone before you can order, even on the phone. If its different powders and or primers, you will likely get a hazmat fee on each different item. Why wait? That said, I buy non hazmat from them regularly. If its powder you want, dont waste your time. I try to order from Recob's, Third generation, Midsouth, powder vally, Grafs, and a few others...They do get it, it lasts more than a few mins, sometimes several days and you can mix and match, order primers etc to make up for the ONE hazmat fee you will be charged....Just saying.

One other thing, a few of the places I've mentioned get things in but dont have time to post availability on the web before its gone. So call. Check at least 3 times per day, ( on the web, not calling them for Pete's sake) the last two times I scored with Recobs it was on the third try that day. Recobs also is NOT on gunbot, I think this is one reason they usually have powder longer. Last time I saw Unique, Win 748, WIN BL-C2, ( OH yeah I have 4 lbs of that too) and H335, it lasted a few days, both 1 and 8 pound. Powdervalley charges just one fee, but the powder goes quick! Likely because they are on Gunbot and attempt to supply Midway and others. If you go in the store in Columbia MO, fine if its on the shelf. Waiting to order is fool's folly IMHO for what that's worth.

I know a lot of guys around here have stashes that make my meager holdings pale, but ALL of mine has been acquired in the last year, during the great famine. YMMV, but likely not if you wait on Midway, and if you do get "lucky" it will not be reasonable, due to the multiple Hazmat fees. Dealbreaker for me. Also I live in MO, so there is sales tax as well...

I'll certainly check those sites RussellC. I have some pistol powders, but I'm trying to start reloading rifle ammo, and I'm having a very hard time finding any. Before the scare I just went to the local bass pro shop for powder. Only one local gun shop carried powder, but the selection was always very small. Since I've never really ordered powder online, I'm not familiar with a lot of these sites.

Wow, that's unfortunate as there has been a lot of rifle powders I want around of late, at least WIN 748, BL-c2 and H-335. I think recobs still has H 322 in 1 lbs jugs, excellent for .223. At least you have pistol powder, that is what is very rare right now. I havent seen Power pistol or HP-38/Win 231 in ages....what rifle are you loading for?

Sadly, the days of just dropping in and buying what you need whenever are over. On a better note, I was in a Walmart the other day and was surprised at all the ammo they had. Several different 9mm, .40, .45, .223.....still no .22 lr though...

Just checked Recob's, they still have 1 lbs of H322 and Win 748. H322 is excellent for .223, and the 748 is good for .223 through 308.

The main cartridge that I'm trying to reload is 300 Blackout. I also bought .270, .308, and .223 dies though. .308 and .270 are mainly hunting rifles, so they don't get shot very often. .223/5.56 is much easier to find in stores. I want to reload them, but they are at least readily available in stores. It's just more expensive that way. 300 BLK is hard to find locally, and expensive when you do find it.

41, for 300 blackout you will need a very fast rifle powder or a magnum pistol powder. I've been using IMR 4227, others use AA1680, 2400, H110, etc...
So, the powder that works in 300 Blk will not likely work for other rifles.
For 223 I'm now using Accurate LT32, which should also work for 308.
For either of them you can get by with a fairly broad range of powders. H335, BL(C)-2, Varget, Tac, and some others.
I haven't looked into 270. A buddy has one, but he hasn't made up his mind on loading for it yet.

I know what you mean on the 300 blackout availability and prices. A buddy has been paying around $0.85 to >1 when he can find it. I'm loading it for around for 24 - 41 cents. The first batch was with some formed brass that I bought at .14 each. So, that's the 41 cents. The 2nd reloading will be 24 cents a round. I don't think I could afford to own a 300 blk rifle without reloading.

Still need a 300 Blk Out barrel, I was able to find 8 lbs of 1680 2 gun shows ago,
really wanted H-110, but am real glad I decided to snag the 1680....

Although I'm currently sitting nearly dried up of any RL22, I have had little to no problem finding primers, bullets, brass, and other acceptable powders locally. I can go out tomorrow and I guarantee I could find H110 or W296. And granted, I know nothing about what your town has for LGS's, so maybe that's your only option? About the only item I think of that's been next to impossible to locate locally, has been RL22, that to, I was informed is available in town. So to be honest, I have never understood the whole online, in that, why would I want to wait for it to get to me, and shipping and hazmat fee's increase the final cost too. What did folks do before internet / online options existed? Must have been pretty difficult to come by reloading components?

I've always had very, very good service from Midway with the notable exception of primers and powder. I waited for months for a promised shipment and never ended up getting either.

I solved my powder problem by going online and finding a brick-and-mortar store that specializes in reloading supplies and making some long distance drives.

Primers seem to be easier to get locally, for some reason. maybe because there are only a few types.

GS, before the interwebs, there were catalog/phone/mail order sales. You could see the companies' offerings in print media (shotgun news, etc) or request a printed catalog and order directly from them. People would by from the LGS as well, oh, and back then it was a 6-8 week delivery of items. I think we consumers are a bit spoiled with the Amazon (and others) model of nearly instant delivery (2 - 3 days), and Flat rate shipping is wonder too!

Yes, it's expensive and somewhat slow to order powder/primers online with Hazmat and shipping fees, but I try to make it a large order to spread out the extra fees. All told, once I have 20 pounds of powder and >5K primers, the addition of ~$2 to a pound of powder or 1K primers still leaves them at a pretty good deal. And, typically PV, Grafs, Recobs, and the like, will have them to my door within a week and a half of the order. Will it replace the LGS for the immediate need? No, but in today's market, chances are, the LGS is out of stock too.

Powder and primers can be shipped with each other for one Hazmat, depends on who you order from.

Powder shortage oh come on now Potatohead you must be joking. :neener:
Shortage implies there is some somewhere jsut not enough.:)

Cabelas has 4 IMR powders and 7 Hodgon powders in stock right now but no 110.
