Started life as a Ruger Commander, full review including shot from ransom rest Here

Original weight 36.40 ounces
Current weight after putting it on a diet lightening the slide and bobtailing the frame it is 31.68 ounces

Swapped out all the black Ruger parts except for the magazine release so that it would match the black screws and black pins. The beavertail grip safety is a Smith & Alexander, the rest of the parts are now hand fitted Ed Brown parts including the mainspring housing.

Old trigger broke at 3.5pounds new trigger breaks at 2.10 pounds.

Changed out the old sites for Trijicon front and Novak rear.

Before and after pictures attached.

My gunsmith did a great job what do you guys think? I absolutely love it.

Mr.Revolverguy

Looks very nice, especially the slide treatment, the grips, and the new stainless parts. The only thing I'm not a big fan is the beveled or Bobcat style mainspring housing. I have tried it but didn't care for the way the gun felt in my hand. Still prefer a flat mainspring housing to any other.

Congrats!

Unfortunately, I fear that you have just launched yourself down a dark road where you will never see off-the-shelf firearms the same again!

As someone already down that road, I salute you with an armful of custom guns and an empty wallet!

Nice lookin' pistol!

I wish my SR1911 Commander looked that good! Very nicely done custom additions to an already excellent 1911! Thanks for sharing this!

That came out very nice. Looks like it is set up to be a carry gun. Is that right? I've carried 1911 type pistols a fair amount, full time for years actually. Just wondered about that 2.10# trigger for any but careful range use. For street use, I have to say that you are braver than I am to carry a pistol with such a light trigger......

+1
2.1 pounds is Awful light for a hardball carry gun.

Will the hammer stay cocked if you drop the slide on an empty chamber?

If it will, my hat is off to that gunsmith.
Very few can make a 1911 trigger that light and still pass all the safety tests.

This all started because I did not have a custom pistol and I wanted a bobtail 1911 it was never meant to be a carry pistol. If I decide to carry it one day I would surely change the trigger back to the original.

All I really wanted was a bobtail, but I have known this guy a very long time and he said why stop there, when he promised what he can do which was less than what I was seeing brand new bobtail 1911's for I said what the heck go for it. I am into this pistol for all the work and purchase of a new ruger less than 1k. I could not find a new bobtail pistol in my area for less than $1200.

I went out and put 100 rounds through it today and it shot well no issues.

RC after reading your post I got nervous I drop the slide 5 times on empty and no issues. But since I hate doing that I put in some snap caps and drop the slide on them through 3 magazines no issues.

I also took the trigger measurement again out of an average of 10 trigger pulls the weight came out to 2.5 pounds.

Very nice! Looks like a stainless version of a Guardian. Holy cow, a 2.1 pound trigger! I can only imagine how fun that would be at the range.

It looks nice but I would want the tool marks on the bobtail smoothed out.

Very nice man. Ever since Ruger put out a 1911, I told myself I'd get one if they made a bobtail.

whozyergunsmith?

Generally trigger pull for a street gun is about 4-4.5 lbs I've always been told; individual tastes may vary; I like 4.5.
Gorgeous piece; +1 on what has been said about a dark and slippery road with no end.
Whats' even better is it appears it only took your Smith weeks instead of months or years...

Cheers,
TF, Who only buys uninterfered with pistols in order to interfere with them; empty wallet salute from way down the road!
