During the first week of school, this semester, my knife making class got dropped because I was the only person to sign up. I needed one more class to receive my full GI Bill stipend and a friend suggested that I should build a 1911 for him. He was in 1911 class and had a spare so he built a carry gun and had me build his comp/range toy. He paid for al of the parts too.

It is a Para Ordnance P14, that's double stack for those not in the know, it was completely stock with a rough bead blast and parkerized frame and a painted slide.

Now its better. It is actually almost jet black, I was playing with some lighting.

The only original parts are; the frame, grips, barrel, and slide. most of the parts are Ed Brown (my buddy is a brand whore), the trigger is an EGW (took a ton of work, I had to rivet a piece of steel to the back to stiffen it up and get rid of about .060" of take up), and the guide rod is a Wilson Combat. I tightened the frame and slide, welded and re cut the barrel lug, fit a new bushing, flattopped the slide, serrated it, fit a beavertail, fitted the internals, buried the fully adjustable rear sight, made a front sight, and installed a one piece guide rod.

I still need to tweak a few things and sight it in so I can cut some of that front sight down.

Great school. The gunsmith I use is an alumnus, he graduated about 6 years ago. Very talented young man, he's building a 1911 for me right now, in fact. Good luck with your studies and career.

Sounds like you did a great job with all the work you did to it. Here's hoping it's a real tack driver for your friend.

So far it functions flawlessly, even with empty cases, and we took it out to shoot some groups at 25yds - ragged hole (1/2" center to center of 5 shots) at 25yds from the bags.

That turned out real nice. You did a good job fitting which is shown by the accuracy. I built some 1911's on PO frames many years ago for my own use and they shoot good but don't look near as nice. Good job.

Actually it is a Para Ordnance. And you did a very nice job on it.
