Beautiful Guns

I may not shoot the Nagant (just because who wants to? lol).
Kidding.

I would shoot the snot out of that Smith though. That thing is beautiful.

That's actually not a Nagant. It's a French model Mle. 1892 out of St. Etienne France made in 1912. It is chambered for the 8mm Lebel cartridge.

My definition of "beautiful Gun" would be something with gold inlay and high quality engraving and since I don't have any gun with that the answer is NO.

Like others here, everything gets shot. That's what they were built for. Otherwise they are no longer a gun.

Like having a muscle car and trailering it everywhere. What's the fun in that?

Yes but the old muscle car only comes out on nice sunny days and never gets parked where some jack wagon can door ding it.
Just like with firearms some are daily drivers some come out on special occasion.
The daily driver stainless Ruger Speed Six

I don't have any that are too pretty to shoot,,,

I don't have any that are too pretty to shoot,,,
I have several pistols that I purchased new,,,
They still don't have the first ding on them,,,
So I do baby them a bit more than usual.

But I eventually get out to shoot them all,,,
Even my French model Mle. 1892 out of St. Etienne France made in 1903.

Learn something new every day.
That shows how much I know about milsurp handguns. lol

ScratchnDent, that pistol definitely lives up to the title of this thread.

Well, with over 200 guns of all types I can't shoot them all, even if I wanted to.
I am a collector so the collection doesn't get shot! Would kinda be like taking your mint 54 Corvette to the demolition derby!
For all those that shoot everything they have - they quite definately do not have a very collectable firearm - or they are stupid!!!
For all those in the later catagory, they make my collector pieces all that more valuable when they screw up their collectable!
As I said I do not shoot my collection, But I have a shooter in each type to take to the range. A shooter = a mismatched ser nr weapon or one in not so nice a condition as to have collector value.
In the end, they are your firearms to do with as you please and while I cringe when I hear of someone shooting a very collectable firearm, as I said above - it just makes mine that much more valuable!

I would imagine there are quiet a few highly intelligent individuals on this forum with some very collectible firearms who would disagree.

Also, calling people stupid with two misspelled words in the sentence is something I find hilarious.

Sarge 13, you were doing real well with your post right till you got to this part:

Pretty arrogant calling others stupid. I do believe Arkansas Paul called it correctly. I enjoy my guns, all of them. I also shoot them, all of them. That includes the Python, Model 27 in wood presentation box and the remaining minty but fired guns I own. I guess it's just a matter of how we choose to enjoy our guns but don't you dare call me stupid!

Respectfully
Ron

I would say that there are many in my collection that do not earn their keep. Almost all have been purchased for one purpose or another so I have no duplicates for the most part.

90% of my shooting is with 2 or 3 of my rifles that go to the range with me most of the time and maybe 1 or 2 handguns, the rest are safe queens. That does not mean that they maybe needed in the future, I failed to purchase a crystal ball and would rather rely on the Boy Scout motto "Be Prepared".

I have always thought of them as tools and not works of art, but the ones that touch my sole are:

These do not go to the range with me.

Taurus Model 82 - 38 Spl 3 inch (I shoot 45 ACP all the time and 9 mm some of the time)
SAM_1138.jpg

Savage Model 11 - 243 Winchester ( I shoot 223 99% of the time)

Marlin 336C - 35 Remington (again I shoot 223 - 2nd rifle 99 % of the time)

Awful collector

I figured out years ago that I am a truly awful collector. I've given up on buying anything for collectible purposes. If it's a gun, I'm gonna shoot it. If it's a fountain pen, I'm gonna write with it. I know full well the effect that has on collectible items, so I leave those for the collectors.

I usually try to trade into or buy nice used firearms if possible so normally don't worry about scraping off the new. On the other hand it does not bother me at all taking a new firearm and breaking it in and putting a target with results from the range recorded on it as history. This regardless unless I have a treasure which is a big (NOT). Or a dangerous or suspicious firearm as far as caliber? I enjoy developing a load or loads for each so is another factor.

I've got a Sharps 45-70 (1874) original, and a Springfield Trapdoor 45-70, not sure of the year, in the musket. Further I've got 2 Colt 2nd generation .45's, a Remington 1858 etc., etc., and believe me they all get shot, and I definitely don't consider myself "stupid". Yes I am a collector also, but I do enjoy living in the past shooting those fine arms. BTW did I mention my 1897 Winchester made in 1902?!

Same could be said for folks that don't use spell check.

I know I never said there was no such thing as a collectable firearm. I just said....
The beauty in my guns is the holes they make in things downrange. Thus, I have a hard time deeming recent mass produced, entry level guns as safe queens

I doubt that anyone here will live long enough to see any appreciable collector value from not shooting a standard production GP100 or an Remington R1. Thus any real value in those firearms is only their worth as a used gun and the enjoyment the owner gets from shooting it.

Calling folks stupid on the internet because they don't agree with your opinion is a clear indication of one's own intelligence.

I've got quite a few that I've never shot due to damaging the collectible status of being NIB (like the 700 Classic I listed for sale here) or used rare guns (all matching Luger, etc) for fear of breaking a part and ruining the value.

Title of this thread should be "Guns We Never Shoot" as it has little to do with beautiful guns

I can disagree because to some, a beautiful gun is a new 1911 no matter who makes it. Others think a new Glock is beautiful. To each, his own. Some like a blued revolver and others like smooth lines like are found on a Wolverine or the new Remington M51. I love the looks of the Browning Hi Power but others don't like it. Some love the Webley and others thinks it's the ugliest thing ever made. The same goes for the Broomhandle, etc. The list is endless. Obviously the OP thinks his Remington and Ruger are beautiful and that works for him.

50th Birthday present from my wife, Colt 1911 National Match ... born in 1957, same as me ;)
