Thanks everyone! This is what I have coming. Here is what I know. It's a flint lock reproduction and only set me back $300. Any and all advice from here, as always, would be much appreciated. Oh, and I think it looks awesome!

I've had my Trapper for over a year, learned everything about shooting and loading it from the folks on this forum, never had a flash in the pan or misfire of any kind.

Put the flint in bevel down for a better spark, even with the bevel down mine hits the frizzen about mid point, not ideal according to some but it works everytime....so far :)

I also have one in percussion and it is great. Comfortable and accurate. You should have a fun time with it. For some reason, mine does better if I wipe the barrel every couple of shots which is no big deal. I should probably just make a wiping stick with tow wrapped around it for the swabbing.

Congratulations on the new toy.

Hhmm... good point.

What and how much of what do you guys load one of these things with?

Pretty much the same here. 25 to 30 grs of Goex 3F, .490 ball and a .015patch lubed with Hoppe's 9 Plus. This is for 25 yard targets, haven't tried it at 50 yards yet.

Anyone shoot theirs with a 250 grn REAL?

I've been thinking I need a Lyman's Plains Pistol as I'd like a spare barrel to ream smooth for shot.

I'm glad to see you resisted the temptation to get one of those new fangled caplocks. :)

Just remember there is a lag time between the pan firing and the main charge firing. It's a really good way to discover if you have a flinch though. One idiot who's name I won't mention but remains my brother, fired my "Tower" flintlock, flinched when the priming powder went off and very nearly cut the cable that hangs over our 10 meter line. :(

A Flinter...good choice, double set triggers very good choice, I have a Queen Anne Flinter clone and pulling the trigger is like pulling a truck out of a ditch. No sights, smoothbore but it is a lot of fun.
For serious target work I picked up this handmade .45Cal rifled bore, great trigger. Everything in the picture for $200 delivered:

Thanks, of course the only GOEX I don't have is 3F. Oh well. Love seeing that kind of order show up. Also really interested is seeing how my home made BP is going to do. Officers' Wife, You seem like you might be an affectionadio of finer scotches? I've got a Brother-in-law and a Son-in-law that I'm sure would rival the acumen of your Brother. They fine tune your awareness during range sessions. Afterwhich, a couple of doubles help settle the nerves. Well I'm off looking for .490's, patches and lube. Thanks all!
