WST for handgun... recommendations?

I like it for light loads in .38 Spl & .357 with 158 Gr bullets. It also works well for light loads in .45 ACP.

It should also work well for other applications. It's good stuff IMO. Competition is a close cousin to it.

45 Auto, 200 gr. and 230 gr. cast, and 185 gr. plated.

40 S&W, 180 gr. cast.

All with good or very good accuracy.

I have used it 38 spcl, 40 S&W, 45 ACP and 9MM. Note, there is no current published load data for 9MM.
It works well, meters well and I'm sorry to have split the 8 #s I picked up last year with a buddy. I already used up all I had and am trying to buy back his 4#s.
If I see 8#s again, I won't hesitate.

I have loaded it in 45 acp, 38 special, and 45 colt. I still prefer AA#2 in 45 acp or 38 special but WST is the only powder I use for my lightly loaded 45 colts.

I like to use a Missouri Bullet 200gr RNFP loaded over 5.4gr of WST with any std LPP. Very accurate and very low recoil.

I guess I did better than I thought.

I picked up 4lbs in a local Reloading Club group by, intending to use it for my IDPA 9mm loads.

I guessing I could use it for my 38spl loads to make 700fps with my 158gr SWCs too

There are some folks on the Brian Enos site using WST in 9. That's part of the load data ideas that I worked up. It works better in the heavier, 124 and up, loads.
It's a nice load at 3.3 - 3.5 in 38 Spcl. I haven't chronoed them, but very pleasant to shoot even in snubbies. Accurate too!

Gents I also hit upon a bonanza of 8lbs on Wednesday. Walked into our local reloading shop who "hasn't had much" recently he says (other than the 4lbs of VV N320 I bought last month!).

Anyway, I remember reading about WST in some 45 acp threads and there were 4 8lb jugs. I thought hmmm the way things are I better take a chance (cost $169). Reading all these threads it turns out I couldn't have made a better decision. It's exactly what I want, a soft shooting target load for 38 and 45.

Now I can breathe easier though I am fortunate to have bought some N310 just before it became completely unavailable and now have N320 as well. The N320 was very expensive $36 a pound. But made up for it because he sells CCI primers for $27.99 per K when you buy a 5K case and I bought a couple. Others around here charge $33 to $37 per k.

WST is popular with match shooters.

Must be fate match shooters 9mmepiphany/1KPerDay/Chiltech500 all finding WST during current pistol powder shortage. :D

Heck, then I need the gods of fate to smile on me -- I wouldn't mind getting another couple of 8 pounders.
At $169 retail it's not GREAT, but it's not bad. Not bad at all.
I was a little leery at first about it in 9mm given the lack of published data, but worked it up using some web data guidelines and have been very pleased.

Cool. I'll try it out in .38 Special with Xtreme 158s... I haven't really found a load I LOVE with that combo yet. Thanks again all!

Damn 1K, you're really scoring lately. You must be livin' right, or went to mass, or something!

For real! I might join up. At least til I can score some powder-:D

I've used more WST than any of my other pistol powders for 45 Auto. It meters great for me. IMO, it's great for target loads and burns cleaner at lower pressure than many other powders. I've used it in 40 as well, with good success with lead.

Well, if you check 3 shops 5 times a week for a year and a half sometimes you get lucky. :D

I should figure the cost of time and gas into the cost of my reloads... probably cheaper to buy factory. LOL

That's good to hear... I don't really have "a good .40 powder" ATM.

I use WST for my main powder in the 45acp. This powder burns so clean at BE loads it's amazing. The load I use is 4.1 gr behind MBC 185gr LSWC BE#2 bullet. Note: Min load posted by Hodgdon's is 4.4gr. The 4.1 gr works fine in my 1911 with the std 16# RS and 23# HS. I use 4.2 for the 200gr LSWC BE#1 from MBC. If I'm shooting Berry's plated I'm at 4.6-4.8gr with the 185gr HBRN.

These are very soft accurate BE shooting loads. Great for just punching holes in paper.

I'll try it out in .38 Special with Xtreme 158s..
I use it with the X-Treme 158 Gr SWC loaded to the cannelure with a light taper crimp. Somewhere around 3.7 to 3.9 Grs should do the trick. I couldn't find any either, so I bought some Competition, which is nearly the same thing. Extremely similar. My first pound of Competition was .1 Gr faster than my two pounds of WST.

Wow, now I'm thinking I better be at his shop tomorrow when he opens to see if he still has any 8lb jugs. Maybe I should buy another. If it's too much down the road I could always share.
