I have a Star Model P , and I need a second magazine. Super P mags seem to be more plentiful , but the P's (often called SS) are least found. As we know , gun parts , including magazines , are often not in stock nowadays. Does anybody know if Super P mags will operate in a Star Model P ?

I had a Model P for a few years and it could use GI magazines.

GI Mags in Star model P

I tried this several years ago. After your reply, what the hey ?, I tried it again. In fact I slammed it in. No catch. Same as before. The mag catch on the P is larger and lower than Colt and other 1911 mags.

I know the guy who has the Model P I had. Next time I see him, I will go over it again. There must be some reason it can work in one and not another.

Try the Spanish Pistol board over on gunboards. This was discussed some time back. Seems to me you have to enlarge the mag catch window on the 1911 mags.

Are you sure you didnt have a Llama? They took USGI mags.

My Star Model P used a propitiatory Star mag, and would not take USGI mags, or any other Colt/GI pattern parts.

I never could find mags, grips, or any parts for the one I had. I bought it new for $75 around 1970, and shot the snot out of it. Well built gun, and actually one of the few Id like to have back.

Star Model P Mag Frustration

Thanks Two Old Dogs. I have been checking with Gun Parts (Numrich) for a couple of years (& today) but they always are out of stock. Triple K said that I might have to wait up to 6 months, and I withdrew my order. E-Sarco has a Star .45 cal. "SS" for sale, but they replied that they didn't know if it would work in my Star Model P. Thanks again, but I'm still stumped. :(

Gun Master, did you check the link Two Old Dogs gave you? The first one is for Bob's Gun Parts, not Numrich. Bob's shows the Mod. P mags in stock.
He seems like a pretty nice fellow. Has always responded promptly to my emails but didn't have items I was after so I haven't purchased from him. Price is pretty good for an obsolete hard to find mag.
Good Luck!

Numrich still doesn't have it.
I'd tried Bob's before (no luck), but tried again today.
Thanks.:)

Ahhh... it never fails. I can't seem to win for losing either. I have 3 good FEG AP66 mags that are missing the thin piece of stamped metal in the bottom that retains the baseplate. Probably 50 different small single stack mags use a plate that will fit or could be made to work. Haven't found a one yet! Springs, baseplates, even whole mags but no little stamped retainers. Good luck in your search. Old guns are hard to care for.

I heard from Bob's Gun Shop today, and he said he no longer had "the gun part" (mag) and didn't know where to go for it.

Thanks.
