Ok, I'm getting very close to pulling the trigger on a good grinder set up, but wanted to get more input on choices.

I was going to try the Grizzly, since I'm a noob, but I have approval from the CFO to get a nicer set up. I don't know if I can get full approval for a $2,000 KMG.

So here is my question, is there a set up out there that is similar to the KMG for a lower price? I'd like a variable speed motor, and platen attachment for now.

I see several builders out there that build the 4 wheel style grinders, but I'm not sure about buying a fabricated system. I think it would be tough to get attachments, etc in the future from a home builder.

Other than KMG, what are the other brands that make that same style of 4 wheel grinder?

If you can scrounge up a 1hp motor pretty cheap get the flat platen kmg with no vfd, and use pulleys for speed control. You would be at about $1,000 for that setup. Then up grade to a vfd when you can afford it.

I think I can get a good motor setup and VFD from a buddy. I just need to make sure. If I can. I might go with the base KMG.

All I really need to a simple dial control for the variable speed right?

I don't know everything about them as I was looking to upgrade soon. But I know you need a certain one depending on how much horse power the motor is. The vfd runs about 250-$350

Make sure you get at least 2hp - You will find a 1 hp unit bogs down when hogging material. My KMG has been flawless and I couldnt do my knives without it.

Jim just gave me a two hour tour at Texas Knife, man do they carry a bunch of stuff. He showed me his Bader. Pretty nice machine, comes with a lot of attachments for the cost.

Pop's has really good prices on Bader equipment. That could be an option.

The search continues....

I had a Bader B3 and it's hard for me to believe you could get a better machine, good luck in your search!

I'm leaning towards the Bader. I need to call Beaumont and get details on the KMG before I decide.

I work mostly on a platen, so that and a nice big sturdy tool test means a lot

Now I'm leaning towards the Pheer. So many options and features for the price. Very good reviews on bladeforum too
