It is already into the second week of gun season here & I haven't even done anything about hunting this year. I just haven't had time. I am going to make a point to get into the woods before the year is over though. I will be taking my old post 64 Winchester model 70 Ranger chambered in .30-06. Last year I finally took the old Tasco World Class scope off it & put a Vortex Diamondback 3.5-10x50 on it.

I will probably start out with the old 8mm Mauser with Mojo sights shooting handloaded 180 gr Nosler BT's.
Backup gun will be Winchester 94 with iron sights and 170 gr handload hardcast.
If no luck with the above two rifles I will go to old faithful - My Savage 110 in 308.

I "pretty much" only deer hunt with two different rifles these days...

First and foremost is my "go to gun", my Krieghoff Semper, named "old reliable"... Old reliable because It's harvested to date, all one shot kills, 28 big game animals in a row,

The second rifle I sometimes hunt with and also sometimes let new hunters use, like my nephew in the pict, is my Remington 700, chambered in .240 Weatherby,

Remington 700 in 300aac blackout. We aren't allowed to use semi autos in pa If we were or would be a 300blk ar or an m1 garand

Custom "Frankenstein" 300 AAC Blackout pistol built from a hodge podge of parts and a self machined lower. 110 grain Barnes TAC-TX reloads.

I'm taking my Remington 700 CDL Classic Deluxe 30-06 with Leupold VX2 scope.

I also will be taking my Remington 1911 R1 as a back up pistol.

"The real Windy City". You must live in Casper Wyoming, cast iron kite flying capitol of the world.

Close, Casper's only a couple of hours North West of me. There is still some excellent iron kite flying weather here though..... 60mph predicted for tomorrow.

The first Year I lived in Florida there were 3 hurricanes that crossed overhead in just a couple weeks. I was later talking to a friend in Cheyenne Wyoming and he asked how bad the winds were. After telling him he was quiet for a moment and then said - you mean like a normal day here?

In keeping with this thread; If I get to go hunting this year my rifle will be a Win 94 in .45colt or an AR in 6.8rem
Woody

Marlin 1895 45-70 with a Nikon 2-7x33
Tikka T3 6.5x55SE with a Leupold 4-12x40
Interarms MKX Mini-Mauer 7.62x39MM with a Nikon 3-9x40.

All shooting handloads.

Taking my Rossi 92.
16" stainless steel In 44mag-no-rama with 240gr XTPs over a max load of IMR-4227.
6" 686+ with 158gr lswc if I decide to try for one with a pistol.

I'll be hunting a shotgun zone this year, so I'm taking my muzzleloader (CVA Optima V2) and a Browning A5 as a backup.

I'll be taking my Steyr Scout in .308 Win. Hornady Light Magnum 150 grain ammo
that I bought several years ago; shoots very nicely.

I might get a wild hair and take my new (old) Rem 788 in .243 or my Win 70 in .270. I've also been thinking about taking a shot with my S&W 29-2 or .500 mag.

I didn't get to go this year. Last year took my new Winchester Model 70 Ultimate Shadow in .270 WSM Zeiss Conquest 3-9x with handloaded 130 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips, but wound up taking a doe with my Marlin X7 in .270 Win Nitrex TR-1 3-9X and handloaded 130 gr Nosler Solid Base spitzers.
My son used my old Winchester Model 70 Super Shadow .270 WSM which he just rebarreled with Lilja stainless barrel, finished out at 27" shooting my Nosler 130 gr Accubond handload into a nice 3 point mule deer buck here in Washington state 3 weeks ago. He also took his Ruger Hawkeye Model 77 in .338 Federal with 180 gr Nosler Accubond handload for his backup rifle. The .270 WSM wears a Leupold VX-3 4.5-14X Boone & Crockett while the Ruger has Redfield Revolution 2-7x. I hope to return to Montana next fall and get my new 270WSM bloodied.

Trying to decide what to take...

I picked up a Remington 81 in 300 Sav last summer cheap. Made in 1947 it beautiful and iconic hunting rifle. I really want to shoot a deer with it but it is almost too pretty to take out in the woods.

My next choice is Marlin 336 in 35 Rem. This was a beater I traded for so I cut the barrel down to 16", cut and refinished the stock into a shorter straight grip. Kinda want to try it out this year. Added a peep and fiber optic sight. This was my last winter project gun.

Choice number 3 is a Stevens 325C in 30-30. Detachable mag, bolt action 30-30 made in 1950, How cool is that? Actually a garage sale find last summer. Another one of those, "I would like to take a deer with a vintage gun" type things.

My final choice is a Ruger SR762 which I won last winter. The dang thing shoots MOA and is pretty fun to shoot. Kinda want to take a deer with it just because. I am going up for about a week to 10 days so I may take all of them. sorry no photo

Tomorrow it will be a CVA .50 cal muzzleloader. Next week when firearms season opens, I'll take my Marlin 336 .35 Remington.

monday took a deer with my tikka t3 stainless 7mm-08, yesterday took one with my marlin 30-30. this weekend? one of the two, or maybe a different 30-30.....

Probably won't get out this year due to work issues. If I do, I'll use my new to me Remington 700 ADL in .30-06. I'll use Core-lokt 150's since I haven't had time to work anything up.
