What are you taking deer hunting this year?

Dvdcrr;

Already done did it. Took my custom LH Tikka in 6.5 X 55mm Swedish Mauser, 22" Lilja barrel, Zeiss 3.5-10X 44mm with the Zeiss #43 reticle in Talley lightweight rings. Got a nice heavy-bodied mulie buck this Sunday just past.

I'll take it for antelope and elk also. FWIW, speedgoats are not, repeat not range maggots. True range maggots are also referred to as "wooly boogers" and rarely as (ick) sheep. Not even in Wyoming, highest pronghorn population of any state, are they called range maggots. How do I know that? NCHS '65.

Shiloh Sharps Hartford model in 45-70; I have killed deer with all of my other center fire rifles and my BP rifle - time for the 1874.

I got drawn on a controlled hunt next week during muzzleloader season... Thompson New Englander .50 for that one.

For rifle season, it will be a Savage 11 in .308. I am picking up a new Zeiss scope this year for it.

On Dec. 26 and 27 I am going on a combined hog and antlerless deer hunt... it will be a free floated, fixed stock M&P 10 with Burris TAC30 1-4x for that one.

This will be the first time I try my own hand loads for hunting. I am going with some 150 grain Nosler Partitions over Varget in Lake City brass for the .308s.

I hope I'll make it to the woods this year!
If I do I'll carry a '94 Win. in .30-30.
Actually, its the only rifle I've ever deer hunted with. I always hunt wooded, brushy areas. It makes for fairly close shots...if I'm lucky.

I am really liking my stainless hawkeye 243 maybe that is the one I should take.

I have enjoyed reading about the guns, thanks for posting, and I hope you all have some great hunting :)

I will start the season with a late sixties Remington 760 in 30-06 using 150 grain Sierra Gamekings

Assuming we have success I will go back for the doe with a very rare Remington 788 in 222 rem mag. I have yet to kill anything with it and it is ridiculously accurate.

At some point I will probably take out the brand new Browning 81 in .243 that I bought for the family to use and for the farm. It will get a ton of use.

There is also a chance I take my Ruger Deerfield 44 mag. But it may skip this season.

I will get 2 or 3 deer depending on size and amount of meat. We eat venison at least twice a week.

I used a Win 70 Ultimate Shadow SS in .270 Winny to knock down two doe Antelope so far this year. That pretty much clears out my Antelope tags... I'm not sure if I'm going to make a go at deer this year, although with the rate that the Antelope in my freezer are getting eaten up I'll probably have to in order to keep us in game meat for the winter. If I do go back out for deer, I'll either use the same rifle, my M70 in .243, the X-bolt in '06, or if my suppressor comes in in time, my Tikka CTR.

I've got one deer rifle, a Remington 700ADL in 243WIN. Ammo is 100gr Remington Corelokt.

I've already taken deer this season with my pre-64 r700 in 7mm rem mag and my r870 express 12 ga...

Lately I've been in the woods with a r700 .50 cal muzzle loader since the 7mm proved to be too much gun for the first deer. The critters are smaller out east.

I suppose I'd take one with my S&W .41mag that carry while hunting if it presented itself properly.

Several:
2-2506's, 30-06, 300 Win Mag, 2 - 243's, 7mm-08 and if I'm lucky to get it ready before the season ends a 358 Win.
Not all at once, but these are the most likely candidates for this year. Usually carry 2 out each trip.

I brought my trustworthy Ruger Hawkeye in 25-06 and went home with a doe this year. I usually like to keep only 1 hunting rifle for all game from coyote to deer and this has proven well. I like to "know" my rifle.

Diversity is the spice of life

Before season is over I'll probably take a Remington 788 in .243, a 1885 marlin in .450 Marlin, a Remington 700 in 7mm mag, a S&W 25-2 in 45 acp but I'll be using .45 supers, an Enfield in .303 British, and possibly a Mosin in 7.62x54r.
That's probably about all I'll use.
And yes the 25-2 is a pistol, but I'll take it anyway.

Oh yeah. I forgot to mention my muzzleloader.
I have taken a CVA Optima Elite to the woods this year too.

Got a 6-point last Saturday with it. Wasn't a trophy by any stretch of the imagination, but it was the first antlered deer I've ever killed with a muzzleloader.
