9 mm with a short trigger pull

I am going arthritic and my trigger finger is kind of crooked and is getting shorter. Otherwise, I have medium-size hands. Carried issued 92 and G17 with no problems when I was younger. I have sold CZ-75 because of this problem. Tried Sig P229, same story. Even Walther p99 seems a bit long for me now. Can anyone suggest a reliable 9 mm with a really short trigger reach?
Thanks to all.

A 9mm 1911. Browning Hi-Power. S&W M&P9 with the small backstrap. If your G17 was an older model, the newer Gen 4 G17 may be an improvement.

Wouldn't any one of the pistols you can shoot single action work for you? (not familiar with the CZ you mentioned) Something you can carry cocked and locked? I've got an H&K USP Compact in 9mm and when it's cocked it has quite a short pull. You just wouldn't want to shoot it double action. Also not sure of your hand strength for working the slide.

I've always had a few revolvers around also... maybe something along those lines that you can shoot single action?

Good luck - hope you find something that works for you!

I did think of the Hi-Power like JTQ mentioned, but I figured pulling the slide might be difficult with your fingers. It's not a light recoil spring in a Hi-Power, but it does have a short trigger pull, that's for sure.

I had 5 fine BHPs over the years, but sold them at various stages of my life. Getting one now is expensive and I want something more modern. I kept H&K P2000, which I like and have good recent memories associated with it. When it is in single-action mode, it is perfect for me, but in DA mode, which i carry, it becomes a problem. G19 Gen 4 I had was excellent for carry, but kept hitting me in the head all the time and Glock did not make it work, so I sold it at loss. Actually, Walther PPS seems to fit fine, albeit it is not a good plinker at the range. Neither is Kahr p9.

What about Sig 938? Single-action all right. I will try how it fits. Some reliability issues reports.

I'm not personally a Glock fan, but I think they worked that problem out. If that is the only thing holding you back, I'd give it another shot.

I carry a SA EMP 9mm. It has one of the sweetest factory triggers I've ever had. It's pricey, but worth it. The frame is slightly smaller than a standard 1911 too, which help with trigger reach.

Have you tried the Ruger SR9c? I have small hands with relatively short fingers and the trigger on the SR9c is an easy reach for me. Most traditional DA/SA triggers are a bit too far away in relation to the grip frame to be a good fit but any 1911 or Hi-Power SAO trigger is just right. Maybe look for a less expensive Hi-Power clone, like the Argentine FM or FEG PJK-9HP.

I'm going to agree with those who said P2000 or USP compact. I rotate between carrying those 2 and they're my favorite handguns.

I have medium-large hand with relatively short fingers. I know that because I wear a golf glove in size "Medium Large Cadet," and as those are common gloves, I suspect this issue is common. I have a Glock G19 Gen4 that I can shoot well when I have a chance to place my hand, but I won't carry it because with a quick grab I might miss the trigger.

My BHP would be my first choice if I were to buy one now, but I don't have to since I've had the same one since 1981.

A second choice would be the Kahr K9, which I have owned since 1998. I have read few problems from folks who have the steel-framed Kahrs, though the synthetic framed version have occasionally been problematic. It has a pretty stiff slide, though.

While it's not a 9mm, I recently bought a Colt Detective Special in 38 Special. The trigger reach is fine for me, but also consider that as we get older, we all might suffer from some form of arthritis and be unable to work a slide. A good 38 revolver will serve then, even if we have to fire it single action. FWIW.

too bad you sold that cz, cajun gun works has some options to set the trigger further back and a shorter reset :(

Ruger sr9 or sr9c. I think it would fit the bill. Hold one and see how they fit.

You mentioned the Sig Sauer P229. Did you look into installing a short reset trigger kit?

Then there are pistols with the single-column magazines. The Walther PPS comes to mind. Some of the Kahr Arms products might work for you. It would probably be best to stay away from the shorter ones such as the PM9. A 1911 9mm with a short trigger might work. Some have mentioned the Browning Hi-Power. With thinner grips and some smoothing work done on the magazine safety mechanism, they are a lot more shootable.

Experimenting with back straps will also help, and there are pistols where they can be switched out fairly easily.

How about the VP9 from HK. The trigger is pretty nice and a smooth pull. It has a bunch of grip panels for you to make adjustments, and it has wings on the rear of the slide to help chamber a round. It might help with the hand problems you have.

I will buy one at some point. Liked the one I handled.

I don't think I saw anyone yet mention Sig's Single Action Only (SAO) models of their full size 226. They currently have 5 different models of the 226 on their website with the SAO. I've shot my FIL's 226 X-Five Tactical, and it's definitely a sweet gun. Short, crisp trigger pull and a short trigger reach. I think you can even install their Short Reach Trigger for a few millimeters shorter reach.

Has the O.P. declared $ Budget limit?

I did a search on gunbroker and there are
ARMSCOR Rock Island Armory 1911 variants
less than full size, saw one 3.5" Bbl. 9x19
in the $500-$600 range some less.

Are there Sig 229s - the compact version of the
Pss9 in SAO. ?

the OP already said a P229 didn't work for him.

The OP mentions a regular Sig 229, which is a DA/SA gun. I believe Blind Justice is asking if they make a SAO (Single Action Only) 229, like the 226 SAO I mentioned above. Unfortunately, Sig does not make 229 DAO guns.

a 1911 in 9mm with a short trigger
or a Enos short trigger with the right curve up or down
