I am a big fan of S&W K frames and Buds has 3" pinned barrel Model 10s available. I've ordered one to join ranks with my two 3" S&W Model 13s. If the finish is too rough for my taste I may consider having it refinished. Would it be worth contacting Smith and Wesson to see about getting it reblued or perhaps I should look around in the Houston area for a decent blue job? What's your opinion?

Smith did a fantastic job with a matte blue refinish on one I sent in several years ago. It went in looking like it had been drug behind a wagon and came out looking brand new. They had a bright polish blue option as well, that was much more expensive.

I'm sure they can still do it, but I undretand the wait times are considerable now :(

I'd say go for it.

Get you a nice but cosmetically challenged revolver and have the original company refinish it, sounds like a plan to me. I'd PERSONALLY go that route just because you can say S&W themselves redid the gun. It's a second kind of cool thing for me.

Oh man! I have a Model 10 police trade-in I got from Bud's a couple years ago that's kinda rough. I'd been wondering about S&W refinishing, now I've got the bug to have it re-done! I also have a brand-new unfired 586-8 that has a blemish on the barrel from the padlock thing that came with it rubbing on it while in it's plastic case. Maybe they'll fix that?

Anybody have contact info for S&W handy?

For a factory refinish, S&W isn't a bad choice. I had a model 27 S&W refinished by Ford's Gun Refinishing with their high polish blue, and it was well worth the price, and the nearly year long wait!

3" model 10's are cool, but I'm intensely jealous of these 3" model 13's you mentioned. Pictures of those please!!

Looking at all the retro revolvers around here, I have seen some pretty grips on some fine looking old guns. My dad still longs for some (shudder) mother of pearl grips for his various revolvers. Of late there has been considerable interest around here in stag or bone faux stag grips. On a number of occasions various folks have chimed in with putting a set of Pachmyers on such guns to make them more useable when the original grips are thin and funky.

Are there none of the other old f**ts that remember the true tactical grips of the 50's and earlier? I mean the thing that guys in the know always did to their fighting revolvers? Yes, I mean if guys are truly into retro, where are the grips with cloth electrical tape wrapped overlapping over the grips?

Anyone have any pictures?

OK just woke up in a mood to tease this morning, but there it is.

Man that looks nice.

I have a model 10 from buds I bought in 2010. It is now my wife's gun. It sits in the safe next to my Glock 19. Its not going anywhere.

Cerakote?.....

A new blue job would be nice but Id consider the new Cerakote. :D
There are many shades & designs. You can add a coat of Armor-Clear for extra protection, wear prevention.
I like the SOCOM blue color.

Here is a quick picture of my two Model 13s. They are both wearing Hogue grips but I have the original stocks put away for safe keeping. I use the Hogues as I have huge hands and cannot keep a decent grip on them otherwise.

I just picked up my S&W Model 10-5 from a local pawn shop that I use for transfers. It locks up tight as a drum and the action is excellent! The finish shows a lot of holster wear and the grips need refinishing. I may just pop on down to my local indoor range in the next day or two and use up some of my supply of wad cutters. Here are a couple of pictures for your viewing pleasure.
