$385.00 for a S&W model 13/FBI issue

The price seems high for a used .357magnum revolver, even in great shape. The S&W model 13 was issued to FBI special agents in the 1980s/early 1990s but I'd ask to see if the revolver has any FBI records or documents included.

Check it over and then offer the shop/FFL dealer $340.00. I bet he will take it. ;)

A 686 no dash CS-1 (Customs Service) 3 inch in good condition no box can go for up to $1000. Iv'e seen them on GA for asking of $1200. Asking and getting of course are two different things.

Yep anything in a 3 inch in decent condition with matching box and better is a grabber for under $400. IMO.

If it is any consolation (I know it's not) I had a similar moment of stupidity recently.
Different model not quite as bad as your potential .... don't you just love the Monday Morning QB??;):fire::cuss:

i'm still kicking my self in the a$$ because of that 3" model 624 .44 spl i didn't buy last fall!! looked new and was priced at $325! it didn't last long there either...... you see a deal get her!!
As a .44 Spl fan, I feel your pain. I traded away a Remington Rand in great shape when I was about 22. Did not know what I had. :banghead: :(

Ah, actually, it's a model Thirteen, three-inch.

With all respect, Gator, you've twice referred to the revolver as a Model 19 three inch. That is indeed a fairly rare piece and demands quite a premium. In point of fact, though, the model 13 in three inch is also quite desirable. The vast majority of 13s and 65s - - the fixed sight magnum K-frames, were made in four-inch trim.

Little Wolf, the round butt K-frame three-inch .357 is one of the truly great carry revolvers. At 31 ounces, it is light for its power, but still controlable with magnum ammunitiion. It is compact, and extremely rugged.

As to its being an "FBI gun," that agency did begin acquiring the Model 13, three-inch round butt type in 1974. The later, mid-1980s purchases were likely the later, 13-3 versions. Unless there is some verifiable documentation that this particular gun was a Department of Justice/FBI purchase, then it must be considered just an FBI TYPE revolver.

I have one of the 13-2 pieces, a three-inch from 1981, and I'm very happy with it. I was fortunate enough to snag it for about $325 last year, a very decent price for a pinned-amd-recessed type. It is certainly of the proper era and model to have been one of FBI group. Its condition is too nice to have been carried as a field agent's sidearm, though. There are NO special markings to indicate it was a DOJ purchase, so in my mind, it is just a very nice carry revolver.

If you do have a chance to pick up one for around the price you mentioned, it would be quite a good buy.

Good luck to you
Johnny

I have been looking for a decent M-13 3" or a M-65 3" for over six months and have found, in my rounds, exactly none. I plan a short custom job on teh one I get, so I'll be gald to have any good example, and at the price you saw that one at I would have not hesitated for one second. They're among the best S&W K frames in my opinion. Regards; Al:what:
