Saw a used S&W 13-2 at the gun store today. Was in really nice condition I'd say around 95-97%, had a round butt and a 3" barrel. Price was listed at $385 with original box. One of the employees said that the 3" model 13s weren't very common, and made mention of it being "the FBI gun".

My question is, what is the value of this firearm? If it's a good price or a steal I may have to get it.

That price is way out of line.

Please post the phone number and address of this shop so that I may call them and give them my credit card num... I mean, a piece of my mind.

I just found a 85% Ruger Speed Six in 38 special and blued for $270. All I could think of was the time I pasted up all those stainless 357s for under $300. So I just bit the bullet and got it.

Offer than $350, tell them its an oddity, its blued, it only holds 6 shots, whatever the auto guys scream to wheelgun guys! Maybe they will drop the price a bit, but I would doubt it.

So, if you want it, get it! They ain't getting any cheaper.

How are those guns are supposed to go for, Jub Jub?

They also had a Taurus 689 4" in very nice condition for $295. It looks like a nice revolver, though I am unfamiliar with how sturdy and reliable those guns are

I can't imagine any possible scenario where I would pass up a 3" Smith under 4 bills.

Buy it, and run out of the shop before they realize they made a mistake.

With the box and as described I think that is a decent price.

The price is fair in today's market, it is a rare gun and the 3" barreled revolvers have a large following, demanding a higher price.

I consider the S&W the better shooter and also a better investment than the Taurus.

Well the thing is I already have three .357 revolvers, and honestly the price and/or investment potential would have to be fair to significant in order to justify the purchase of another one.

Its a fairly early P&R'd 3" 19 for under $400 for Pete's sake!!! :what:

If you pass, please post the store's contact info. Someone here will gladly snap it up for that price plus shipping and transfer fee.

Not a total steal but beter than average, I'd probably pass but maybe you should not.

Although it may seem a little expensive, I'd buy it.
If you do get it and don't like it, let me know and I'll try to buy it from you if described as you say. I'm assuming it has original wood grips.

It's your call, but you did ask. The price is a good one for a shooter or a collection piece you usually see them about 50. bucks more or so. The price, if the gun remains in good shape, will not go down. But it is not significant.

Clearly you don't want it as a shooter. If you did you wouldn't ask what you have. So if you don't get it kindly let others know where it is so that they can.

Well, I regret to inform you all that the gun has been sold. I went in this morning to buy it, and it was already gone. There was less than a four hour window between close of store when I left last night and from opening to when I came in this morning. Boy, that gun went fast. Upon further inquiry, one of the clerks informed me that the gun is sitting out back with a rather large deposit placed on it (I would have bought it outright). Anyway, since the guy put a large deposit down, he doesn't think it will go back to the shelf. Said that they can hold the gun up to a month for the guy.....

Here's hoping he needs the money, or his wife chews him out about it!! :banghead::cuss:

Oh well, live and learn. I won't make that mistake again, though this will be one of those moments that you reflect back upon with regret for the rest of your life.

Sometimes ya just gotta just jump on something. Problem is, we don't always know when. :)

Little Wolf, you just missed out on a great opportunity. "ANY" 3 inch Model-13 in 95% condition for less than $450 today is a "keeper". And if it has the original box and goodies its worth more --- just check the auction sites or Smith-Wesson Forum. 3 inch M-13's are simply hard to find (not so the 4 inch barrels). The people that have them rarely sell them. They are one the best combat revolvers every made and lots of people are looking for them. The prices for them are going up faster than for most other revolvers. I'm not trying to make you feel bad, but it may be a long time before you find another one in that condition or any where near that price.

Live and learn, as they say.

Sometimes you just have to "JUMP" on a deal. I don't do that too often, but I did it with my Colt New Service Revolver, and don't regret it.

I would've snatched it so fast you would be smelling smoke three days later if it were me. :D

Unfortunately, you are correct. I passed a 3" M13 in terrific shape about 4 or 5 years ago that was selling for around $400. I still kick myself as I haven't seen a 3" M13 in person since, and I rarely even see them on the auctions. Heck, even the much more common 65 in 3" is usually selling for over $500. If I had the money to spend, I'd jump on any 3" .357mag K-frame I saw for under $400 and I'd have to think very hard (and have a lot of trouble passing up) any for under $500 assuming they are in good enough condition to justify the price.

The saying is : " you didn't pay too much, you just bought too soon" !!! :D

Don't let a good one get away -- if you think the cost is too high now, you can be sure it will be a lot higher by the time you find another one.

Just to rub it in a little more....... Such an early 3" 19 could well have been a actual FBI gun, it would have been worth getting lettered. If it did turn out to have an FBI connection, it would have been worth at least double the asking price.

walkalong is right!

i'm still kicking my self in the a$$ because of that 3" model 624 .44 spl i didn't buy last fall!! looked new and was priced at $325! it didn't last long there either...... you see a deal get her!!
