I recently picked up a Shield in 9, very happy with it so far, maybe 150 rounds. Lots of dry firing too and the trigger is improving but... It has way to much over-travel. Thinking about the Apex trigger, not the sear kit though. What are your thoughts? Are there any other alternatives to limit over-travel?

Q

Mines at my gun smith now having action work no apex kit, they have there own in house action packages. If you have a smith you trust this can be done reasonably cheep and safe.

Out of stock....

I looked into a new Apex Trigger system for my no thumb safety S&W Shield 9x19mm but most of the common retail sites I checked were sold out. :(
I like the custom work of SWAT cop & pistol smith David Bowie, BowieTacticalConcepts.com . He's widely known for M&Ps and I think he's expanding into the popular Shield line.

I don't put 1000s of 9mm rounds thru my little Shield so over time, the trigger/action should smooth out. The S&W stock trigger seems fine for me. ;)

Google
shield over travel
And you will get a bunch of hits and some videos.

Personally, on my shield I don't find the over travel bothersome.
I did smooth out the striker safety plunger and it did a world of difference, but not to the over travel obviously.

I've had a Glock 27 gen 3 for years and just purchased a 9mm Shield for my wife. I haven't had any trigger work done on the 27, but after checking out the trigger on the Shield... time for a trigger job on my 27. I guess I'm just a simpleton, but I love the stock trigger on the Shield. (Or am I missing the ball???)

Mine breaks clean but its a little heavy, the reset is long and I dont like the false
reset or over travel.

Type...

One point Id make is to check the Shield model.
You may have bought a MA compliant version :uhoh: or a older pistol with the trigger system that wasn't updated.

I saw a Youtube clip of a firearms/tactics trainer who also had a FFL. He requested a S&W Shield to T&E since so many of his tactics students had them.
He stated the Shield's trigger was awful and he disliked it. When he checked the records & the S&W factory box, he noticed he was sent a MA compliant version.

My no thumb safety format 9x19mm was made on 11/14/2014. It was not MA compliant & to me, the trigger seems good. I'm not a M&P armorer or 3 gunner but the pull seems smooth enough.
FWIW: I handled a few NIB M&P full and compact pistols in the summer of 2014 that seemed to have rough, gritty triggers.
Hopefully Smith & Wesson corrected these M&P problems. I know they were grinding out 1000s of new firearms to meet LE contracts and sales. :uhoh:

Texas DPS, New Mexico State troopers, LA County Sheriffs....

To my limited knowledge, the Texas DPS(Dept of Public Safety) ordered new Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm sidearms to replace the SIG .357sig models. The first contract run was really bad & the DPS was ticked, .
The New Mexico State Police and Los Angeles CA County Sheriff's deputies picked new M&P 9mm pistols too.
S&W got the message with the DPS mess and elected to step up the QC and production of M&Ps.
