Ok gals & guys,

I'm getting a new gun on Monday, a S&W Model 58-1.
It's an N-frame dbl action in .41 Magnum.

I made some rounds with 210gr SWCs & Tite Group.

I got a sample pack of MBCs 41 Trooper (Hi-Tek).
215 gr LSWC - the Hi-Tek part is a gold colored polymer coating.

I have Unique, Bullseye, Accurate Nos 2 & 5, & W231.

6 manuals & the 41 Mag One Book, One Caliber and almost all of the data I have is for JHPs
Data for lead is scarcer than hen's teeth.

Someone got something for lead with the powders I have?

Depends on what loads you want?

Full magnums or just target/plinkers.??

It's late I will have to dig out my Lymans cast but here are some on line. Yes, you can use the 210 data,

or follow the suggestion for the 220 Jacketed data

http://www.reloadammo.com/41loads.htm

None of those powders are suited for full tilt loads, but Unique, AA #5, and W 231 will make some nice midrange loads. AA #2 can make some nice light loads.

Think 2400, AA #9, H110/W296, N110, Enforcer, etc for full power stuff.

Elmer recommended 7.5gr of Unique with his 220gr bullet for a medium load. The 215gr bullet you're referencing will seat deeper in the case than Elmer's bullet but you should be okay.

Data from my old Lyman manual for a 212 grain cast. There's a 240 and 199 grain cast too if you want it.
Powder Start Vel Max Vel
Bullseye 4.0 736 5.5 909
Unique 7.0 941 10.0 1270
2400 14.0 957 18.8 1308
IMR4227 18.0 1122 21.8* 1417
Accuracy load: Unique 10.0 1270 FPS
Factory Duplication: 2400 14.4 989 FPS
* = compressed.

Accurate Data from another old manual.
210 Cast
Powder Start Vel Max Vel
No. 2 6.0 950 8.0 1121
No. 5 9.3 1050 10.3 1152

Thank you very much for the replies.

Walkalong - I'd LOVE to make some full house loads too, but just can't find the right powders.
I'm out of 2400 and can't remember the last time I found any H110/W296, N110 or Enforcer.

As a disabled vet, I can't afford to buy it online.
The only way to make the haz mat palatable is to buy 4 or 8 lb jugs.
Can't afford it & don't know where I'd even find it.

Too bad your not close by, I could fix you up.

I have been playing with True Blue for midrange loads. Your set for that though with Unique and W231.

I use AA # 9 with the 215 SWC from MO Bullet. AA # 2 gave me some leading problems. I guess it burned too fast or hot.

YA, Accur #2 is very hot.
One could probably do some soft plinking loads.
But I have titegroup for that.

I'm just gonna have to call around to the gun shops & see who's got something I can use.
Titegroup will just have to suffice til then.

Thanks all for the suggestions.

Of the powders you list I have loaded 215gr LSWC bullets with 231 and Unique of which I've only ran 2 over my chrono shot from 4" S&W 657 Mountain Pistol. The 7.0gr load of W231 is more like the old "police load" while the 9.5gr Unique load is closer to the maximum of 10.0gr full power load with this bullet. I've also shot a lot of 7.8gr of Unique behind the 215gr LSWC (not chrono's) and it should be close to the same velocity as 7.0grs of W231

This data came from Winchester "free" on line pamphlet.

Chronograph results-

First Range Report with this gun:

Shot 50 rds of 210gr SWC - Lubed with 45/45/10.
5.0 gr of Titegroup
Mild report - & more accurate than me.
I didn't measure & forgot my chronograph.
But I'm certainly happy with the results.
I put 6 shots in about the size of the old Eisenhower dollar coins.

I'll try to be more specific on my next range report.
