I got an email from wideners advertising stuff. They list once fired commercial brass, 9mm, 3000 for $135. Is this a good deal and what do they mean by commercial. Will I have any extra steps or problems reloading it?

Commercial as in NON-military. Examples would Remington, CCI, Federal etc.

Milspec ammo will have crimped primer pockets.

If you need brass they are a good company to deal with. Bought many things from them.

That price includes shipping, As said above I can not say if it is a "good" deal or not, never have bought 9mm brass.

OK, thanks. I guess I'll pass. I don't really need any yet, but sooner or later I will.

I have seen Federal "FC" brass with NATO marking.

To me, anything that doesn't have military/NATO marking.

I like buying "military" .308 brass with Lake City headstamp "LC" that has cross inside a circle for "NATO" spec ammunition. The crimped primer pocket tells me it's once-fired.

The difference between "military" vs "commercial" is thicker wall of military brass that will reduce internal case volume and I will use less powder charge at the top than what was developed for thinner walled commercial brass. But I found this is not always the case as when I sort resized/trimmed brass, sometimes I find military brass to weigh comparable to commercial brass so using water to determine the internal volume is the only sure way to ensure consistency.

With .223/5.56 brass with crimped primer pockets, I don't think this is the case and I don't separate military brass with NATO markings from commercial brass and use the same powder charge as commercial brass.

With 9mm NATO marked brass, I simply remove the primer pocket crimps and reload like other commercial brass.

I don't belong to any ranges. I have a few acres of land about 30 minutes away and I go there to shoot.
There is a range about the same distance away but I haven't joined as it is kinda expensive imo, and I have the place to shoot anyway. But maybe down the road I will.

Very good point about "crimped primers" BDS, I never considered that.

As for 9mm brass, I've never bought any, everyone I know gives me their brass, which includes 9mm.

For the OP, This guy is also good to deal with. His brass is processed and cleaned, so not worries about primers or crimps. This site is out of stock now but mo worries ordering from them.

A lot of places that claim once fired are not really and they sell junk. Others have contracts with ranges and get the brass direct from them. So pay a few cents more and get decent stuff.

Check in the forum trading post. Members are always sell brass.

An acquaintance bought a skid load of .223 brass at a military auction some 35 years ago which contained about 90% "commercial" brass with NO crimp. There were several well-known brands of brass in this load.

Looks like a good deal, if you need to buy 9mm brass. I haven't seen it any cheaper for the quality you get from them. I did buy some 40S&W from Wideners and it was as advertised.

Thanks to everyone for the offers and links. I've bookmarked them. This thread has turned into a good source for anyone looking for brass.
