Dakota Custom Rifles?

Anyone know about these rifles? They appear to be pricey, as in, more of a custom made rifle than a off-the-shelf rifle. On the internet, I see a slightly used Dakota Arms rifle with a M700 Action, a 26" Shilen match barrel, and a desert camo HP Precision stock with rings and basses but no scope (barrel color matches stock and bolt is black), for $1399. The caliber is .300WSM (which I really like).

Is this a good deal? I hate to buy rifles that I can't hold in my hand, but sometimes you just gotta go with your gut. Do you know anything about Dakota Arms rifles and if so, can you give me some advice on this rifle?

I don't own one but...

I have handled several over the years and they have all felt wonderful in the hand. As for price, that doesn't sound bad for what is a semi custom rifle. You can probably go to their website and check pricing. I would say go for it, after all, $1300 isn't all that much for a top shelf rifle any more.

I think the reasons this one is a cheaper (others are in the $3-5k category) is due to it being used (only fired a few times) and the fact that it has a synthetic stock, not one of the nice wood stocks? It's just real hard to judge a rifle from some pictures and a description. It says 26" barrel but it sure doesn't look like a 26" barrel, looks more like a 20" barrel IMHO.

Also, it must be heavy or something. Synthetic stocks don't always mean lighter. They don't give a weight of the rifle.

That's not a rifle built by Dakota Arms. The first hint is the action. They use their own proprietary action that I believe is a controlled feed more akin to the Mauser 98 or pre-`64 model 70. They don't use 700 actions. Dakota Arms rifles also aren't going to lose a lot of value just because they're used but would be priced like any other used gun. The barrel stamp is really all the proof that was needed to realize that it was built by Dakota Custom Rifles. Not Dakota Arms.

Interesting. It sure says "Dakota Custom Rifles 300WSM" on the barrel (in gold lettering).

Dakota Custom Rifles is not the same as Dakota Arms.

Probably the worst crime against humanity is putting a Dakota Arms action into a camo'd synthetic stock, but Dakota Custom Rifles is a different company altogether.

Yah, my bad. This is a Dakota Custom Rifle, or that is what is what it is being advertised as.

Think model 70 with a nice recoil lug hanging down.
Beretta rifles were DAKOTA ARMS for a short time.
