Finally got the time to quickly clamp my new RCBS Automatic Priming Tool to the bench and try it out.
Definitely a "Why didn't I get this earlier" moment.
Coupled with my Dillon flip tray - another totally worthwhile purchase, priming isn't so bad !
This was my great discovery when I started out on a Lee Turret. Placing primers in the cup one by one was way faster than loading the primers into the tray, clearing jams, tapping to get the primers moving and clearing sideways primers which jammed the press and stopped the flow of work.
I have...
Reefer - I normally try tightening a die down and hoping that as I loosen it, it loosens the bushing. Hasn't worked yet, but it's still only mid afternoon.
What's a weekend for, after all ?
I may try doing that - I just finished some 9mm. I now have two dies that are loose but the rings are impossible to remove.
The AP seems to be turning into an "Mechanics Special" I am still getting high primers occasionally. No way can I trust the primer system to go "100 straight" without...
I know there are quite a few LnL users here - a couple have already been a great help.
I seem to be having a problem with the die bushings - they seem work loose after several rounds (I will normally see movement in my sizing die first) at which time I will give them a hand tightening tweak...
I don’t want to knock anyone, but I think testing at anything under 25 yds is a waste of time.
Move out a way and use 10 shot groups. (Let’s not discuss group round count again)
Use a rest.
When you get a good group, next time at the range, shoot the same load and confirm.
I’m obviously not...
I've been on a long road trying to get smaller groups with my Glock 19.
I won't bore you with the details, but, as has been stated, a good bullet is important. For 9mm certainly sort by headstamp - 9mm brass is all over the place.
Last - all of my testing showed that increasing velocity...
Just looked at the Dramworx powder hopper again... https://dramworx.com/products/hornady/
I'm seeing what looks like a silver band at the bottom of the pyrex. Does anyone have one of these ? I was wondering how the hopper is retained.
Well, day 2 was a lot better.
A big shout out to NMexJim for offering to go above and beyond helping me get set up.
I reset the pawls from scratch and the indexing of the shellplate seems good. The powder hopper was cracked when I looked at it closely. i wrangled it off and bandsawed the bottom...
Thank you, everyone.
It was a frustrating day in the garage ! I got the press mounted and wiped down only to find that the press wouldn't index. Both pawls were totally out of adjustment and the right one was sticking in the 'down' position occasionally. I fiddled with both pawls and it seems to...
Thanks for the replies !
I thin I'll set up the measure without the PTX once I have it unwrapped and cleaned.
Chuck, I also (When I was using my Lee Turret) used a "Semi Batch" method for reloading. I'll tinker with the AP and find what works for me.
Hi everyone,
Just got a Hornady AP and have a couple of questions.
1. The PTX bushings – I’m sure I read somewhere that they now include an “M Die” step. Is this true and does it work for coated bullets ? Does someone make an alternative PTX that works better ? I’m sure I read about...
LiveLife - thank you for the kind offer !
I'm out of work right now, and the RMR's might be just a little above my pay grade. I have a Glock 19 which has never consistently shot really good groups. It seems that the faster I make it go, the tighter the groups become - but they're not something...
Do you guys see a group size difference over, say Bayou bullets to justify the increased cost ?
I'm still at the stage of trying to settle on a bullet for a bulk buy for 9mm / 147gn - was hoping to avoid sampling another bullet...
I use Power Pistol for hot 38 +P loads. For mid / high 357... AA #7 is a winner !
Edit - MP 300 did nothing for me with a 6" GP100. Poor velocity & very poor groups.
