I use a Series 70 Colt Commander almost daily for CCW. Tried a few pal's Dan Wesson's, Kimbers, Norinco, SW clones. I actually found the Taurus 1911 clone fairly decent, as well as the Springfield Armory ones...
Update to the Thread
We will be buying a home in Johnson County, KS soon.
I see that my non-resident NH and FL permits are no good and I will have a 6-month residency waiting period for the KS CCW permit to be applied for.
Is it legal in KS to have a pistol in the glove box holstered and...
Daily Carry
3" K-frame 357 magnum, either Model 66 or Model 65LS in Del Fatti leather and 2 Safariland Comp II speedloaders.
150-grain JHP @ 1200 ft/sec (chrono'd).
I'm more than confident that I'll handle anything I might run into....
Thanks so far
This is excellent background info to begin compiling. I appreciate all of the input.
School district will be important as I have a youngsetr getting ready for elementary in another year or two.
Job will be in downtown KC, MO. I expect a miserable commute from a suburb.
I am in a position to be relocating to Kansas City, MO for a job from Upstate NY. I presently have CT - NY-FL-NH CCWs.
How hard will it be to get a KS or MO CCW? I'm especially interested in hearing from folks who live in KS or MO with their opinions and feedback.
I have the luxury of...
Generally just a K-frame and two Comp I or II speedloaders. Have been known to pocket strips -- birdshot for critters on trails/woods.
If I anticipate travelling through a not-so-pleasangt neighborhood, a second K-frame rides crossdraw to the IWB. This makes for a lightning reload whether...
Two crossdraw rigs used. One is a Ted Bourdin vertical shoulder holster for a 3-4" K-frame. The second is an older Brauer Semi-Shoulder Crossdraw. Both were bought on E-Bay and have given good service.
As for long arms in NY, there is no waiting period. Just a NICS check.
It's the handguns that they create an Olympic hurdle course for!
Of course, they still have that silly 10-rd magazine clip law in effect too.
I moved from Bel Air/Abingdon, MD to Cayuga County, NY and now reside in Cortland County, NY.
I'd be happy to answer any questions as I went through the process about three years ago. The Judges in Cayuga County will take out of County (but not out of State) references if you write them a...
Welcome aboard to NYS CCW! Glad to see aniother one made it through the hoops.
If you are going for 357, I would recommend a 3" SW K-frame or a 3" SP-101.
As far as Glocks, they are good pieces and any one of them would work well.
This photo shows the difference between a Safariland Comp I (left-small knob), Safariland Comp II(right, larger knob), and a Bianchi speedstrip(foreground).
I got rid of my HKS as I can reload the Comps much, much faster. I've never had the experience of having them drop rounds or come loose...
Another armed, conservative NY Jew.
Having had family lost in WW II, my family is very keen on not allowing more of us to pass into the great beyond in a violent manner.
Usually a 3" Model 65LS or Model 66 with 4 rounds of snakeshot and 2 150 JHP magnums.
Have a spare speedloader of each on the belt in a dual pouch in case I need to switch stuff around.
Have had to handle a den of rats, a rabid squirrel (foamy), and a nest of snakes in the past three...
Roze offers reloaded and factory 158 LSWCHP at great prices.
http://www.rozedist.com
I just bought 800 rounds of assorted LSWC, LRN, and SWCHP from them. All of it is good stuff.
$10.78/50- new
Carry 2 speedloaders of either LSWC-HP or JHP, plus a speedstrip of snakeshot.
If the area I am heading to/through is unpleasant, then I'll stash a second, smaller K-frame (2" bbl) around in addition to my 3" K-frame.
