Thanks guys for all the input. The SD part is minimal-sorry if I over rated it in my posting. Want a long range hunting rifle with a wallop. Like any gun, it
could always be a SD gun if it needed to be. Yes I live in the sticks, too. No
AR's. I don't like .223 as I said, but I already...
Already have a .357 lever Marlin, pre Remington, and love it. I want something with more power at distances. I know the .45-70 drops a
lot at distances, but it is a tried and true round with newer style ammo.
My son has a .308 Browning lever, which is quite nice. Other suggestions
welcome...
General use. Some hunting, and home defense use, but I want it to reach
out if necessary with hard hits. Very familiar with .308(M14), dislike .223
and .30-30 tho'.

I live in CA, and other than no assault weapons unless registered, it's not too bad. We have an "approved" gun list which the gun makers have to submit a gun for "safety" testing and pay a huge fee for the privlege and every gun has to be tested even if its just a different color. How stupid...
So what if you smell like gun oil? Tell him to back off. It's none of his business what you do. Maybe you work at a range, gun store, ammo factory, gun test facility. Again, it's none of his freakin' biz and TELL him so.
Like we all know, and should put out there like Wayne L was trying to say at one point, "Assault Weapons" are automatic or select fire weapons. The cosmetic features are what scares these dweebs. Besides, to me, assault weapon is as assinine a term as is Saturday night special, which means...
I used to work in a Chevy dealer in the shop. Had to road test Impalas/Caprices as a daily job, plus the cops ordered the cars from us. Heavy duty seats held up but were hard. The earlier ones had less smog stuff on them cause they were ordered at Fed emission standards, not CA so they were...
I bought a .357 Blackhawk years ago and was convinced to not bother with the 9mm. Later, a guy sold me an extra 9mm cyl. cheap so I tried it out and it is much less accurate than the mags. But at least I have a convertible now.
What a great State! Finally, a State that actually stands up to the Feds ever-increasing power grabbing. Isn't Montana the one that said no to the Federal 55 speed limit rules too?
I have a Python that I have been saving for my kids, but I took it to the range and had forgotten what a pleasure it was. I have a S&W for everyday use cause they still make those....but now, I don't know.....
