Me personally, I don't like the 6.5 calibers. Nothing wrong with them, I just have no use for them....
284 Winchester case vs. 30-06 case - I just wanted something a little bit different....
...is loaded with Hornady's 155 gr. A-MAX and the 30-06 Ackley is loaded with Hornady's 208 gr. A-MAX...
Here is the load for both cartridges:
***30-284***
CASE: Lapua 6.5-284 brass necked to .30 caliber / Match prepped...

Mark - I was sitting at my shooting bench, getting ready to do a little shooting when I spotted 3 coyotes off in the distance. I ranged them, dialed the scope in, settled the crosshairs on ones front shoulder, gently squeezed the trigger, and as they say - the rest is history....
H&Hhunter...
Thank you Carl...
I don't care what others think about this set-up. I put it together for my wife and she enjoys it. One big hog and literally dozens of deer, all one-shot-kills, even though she did put a second bullet in that hog for added insurance. What's there not to like...
I picked up over 110 lbs. of sausage from our game processor yesterday. He showed me the hide they skinned off that 500 lb. hog, and amazingly, those two bullets passed completely through, with exit holes as big as a quarter...
Here are a couple of pictures of the skull we got back...
I could not keep the scope from slipping in the rings with one set, so I added a second set and lightly dusted the bottom halves of the rings with rosin. That scope has not moved since....
That hog did not smell near as bad as what we thought it would...
The small piggy went on the grill...
I took my wife Terry out yesterday to get in a little range time before taking her hog hunting today...
This is Terry's "Baby Rifle" - A T/C Contender carbine in 7mm TCU...
The bullet of choice is Sierra's 160 gr. B.T.-H.P. Game King...
3-shot groups averaged 7/8" or less at 150...
I built that Savage single shot into a 6.5-284...
Here is a custom built Savage in 300 Winchester...
A left hand Savage in 30-06...
This left hand Savage is in 22 Bench Rest...
Great rifle and great caliber!
The 6mm Remington will hammer any deer you will ever come across with any of the 100 gr. factory loadings. Just pick one and go see how well it shoots...
