I've got an older pre-accutrigger LA 110 in 30-06 I was thinking of modifying. I have aspirations of a 600-1000 yard rifle. I have shopped around and there doesn't seem to be much aftermarket support for this kind of build. Anybody have one? Sources for parts? Maybe I just need to pick a different platform. Thanks!

I do know a pre-accutrigger rifle won't accept the accutrigger so you need to buy aftermarket, as per Savage.

I was just looking at the Savage site tonight and I noticed a new rifle I didn't see before. It's on the expensive side but it probably has everything you need for long distance shooting. It's the Model 110 BA in either .300 Win Mag or .338 Lapua Mag. http://www.savagearms.com/firearms/model/110BA

I really wish I had the money right now to buy one but it's going to have to wait for a while.

I am at a serious loss as to why a search would not find you anything. The Savage 110 platform is literally one of the top firearms in terms of aftermarket support. For any of the parts -except of course for the receiver- you can find anywhere from four or five manufacturers to at least a dozen or more that offer aftermarket support for that part.

As an example(by and far not all inclusive of whats out there): Stocks you can get from Boyds, Hogue, Richards Microfit, Sharp shooter Supply, Stockade. Barrels from Shilen, Criterion, Brux, Douglas, Pac-nor, Mcgowan, ER Shaw, and Lothar Walther. Triggers from Timney, Rifle Basix, Sharp Shooter Supply.

Go to the forums over at Savage Shooters, they have individual sections over there dealing with nothing but specific aftermarket parts. You will find all the information you will ever need there- Savage Shooters forum

Ok thanks for the info. I checked my usual websites (midway, brownells) and didn't turn up many results. I mostly found replacement parts, or parts that didn't match the build I am wanting. Mainly looking for a heavier barrel and nice heavy tactical stock. This thing is a monster with its light weight configuration. I'll check out the savage forum, but I always like to keep it here if possible!

Im about to order a 110 308, remove the barrel and have my father in law fix up a 358 hoosier barrel for deer hunting.

I can't call it a build, just a fixer upper, but since no one else has put up any pics, I'll go first.

Mine is an older pre accu-trigger model. Naturally its chambered in 7mm Rem mag. Action and barrel are just as they left the factory. The stock is a Boyd's JRS classic, and the action is glass bedded. I did also replace the old plastic trigger guard with steel, and made the two piece scope mounts out of a one piece unit. Scope is a 3x9 Luepold in Burris rings. Its my hunting rifle, so i don't really want a heavy barrel or sniper style stock for it. Not that i wouldnt like to have one like that, just for the heck of it. Like these other guys have said, you should have no problem finding parts for your project. Sounds like fun. Keep us all posted.

Screw on a criterion barrel, throw it in a manners stock, upgrade the trigger and go shoot.

Skys the limit when It comes to customizing the savage 110. What caliber are you looking to shoot? Are you wanting a long action cartridge, magnum, short action?

Depending on the trigger you may not need an upgrade. I have an early 110 that I was able to adjust eh factory trigger down to about a pound, no creep, no overtravel.

I was going to turn my 257ackley into a suppressed 308 shooting subs, but the gun I bought used was a custom job and they had threaded the barrel into the receiver and the bolt predated the floating interchangeable bolt heads. Fortunately the gun shoots great as is. I found fred over at sharp shooters supply to be very helpful, and he knows pretty much everything there is to know about savages.

I would love to do a build like the one shown. Mine would be 2506 and pillar bed. Sweet! Thats a nice rifle thanks for sharing.

An old 110 in .308 with a Canjar trigger and 10X US made Burris scope. The stock is a Richards. It shoots better than it looks. :D

You could always buy a Savage Single Shot action and build around it. This is everything that comes with the action...

They will easily do 600-1k yards. Palma shooters do it with .308..

Go get a good drop in barrel.. Say a .308 Palma, 300 wm, whatever your caliber of choice is. I recommend shilen, and I recommend contacting Jim Briggs at northland shooter supply.

The pre-accutrigger can be safely tuned down to 2 lbs.. PM me with an address and I'll drop a reduced force trigger return spring in the mail to you.

Stocks, mcmillan, choate, manners, xlr, eliso.. all make very good stocks for the long action stagger feed rifles. I'm running a boyds thumbhole thats been pillar and glass bedded.

I've got less than 1k in the build minus scope..
Savage 110 stagger feed action
Boyds featherweight thumbhole stock, pillar and glass bedded (wont support a full on bull barrel)
Shilen match barrel, 1:10 RH twist, 24" .716 muzzle, recessed target crown
Competition recoil lug
Trued barrel nut
Trigger tuned down to 2 lbs, no creep
Weaver bases
Millet Angle Lock rings
Bushnell Elite 3200 4-12x40 AO

Shoots sub 1/2 moa without much tweaking.. and I suspect I'll see .25 from it pretty consistently once I find it's preferred load.

If you google "chronicles of building a match savage".. the VAguntrader.com link is my rifle and the build that I did.

Savage/Stevens build

This is my Stevens 200. It began life as a .223 Remington. I converted it to .243 Win first with a sporter weight barrel and then with heavy E.R.Shaw barrel and Boyd's Prairie Hunter laminate stock and EZ trigger assist. Then on to it's present set-up in .308 Win with Savage synthetic stock and Riflebasix trigger. Yes this is all the same gun!

Sharp shooters supply.com will sell you a Brux at any twist rate you desire. Rifle basix makes good replacement parts for the older 110's or a whole FTG for a bit more. Choate makes a really good stock especially for the pre accutrigger. You can build one tight shooter with this combo.
OORR, you can get a cheap tube from the gunshack.com Helotes,Tx. They have about the best price on Shaw barrels. And Shaw is cheap! But they will perform as well or better than factory savage barrels(from my experience) they will need to be refined a bit but well worth the price. I built one that will shoot .30 3 shot groups and .850 5 shot groups with the shaw.

Brux is a much better barrel, I'll put them against anyone's barrel.

Thanks for all the feedback! Those are exactly the kinds of sources I was looking for. I know many companies specialize in different types of weapons, I just didn't know which ones did B/A savages.

Any reason to switch from 30-06? I have several .308 rifles so I already hand load that as well. I would like to stick to a "common" round just for cost reasons, .338 and .300 win mag are pricy.

I was looking at this stock

I am completely happy with the quality and adjustability of the factory trigger, I'll just need to sort out caliber/barrel options and some glass on top.

I built this myself based on a Savage F12 single shot action.

Shillen 6mmbr pre-fit select match grade stainless 1in8 four groove ratchet rifling barrel.
Rifle basix Sav-2 trigger,
Richards microfit stock
Ken Farrell 20moa rail.
