Shadow 7D,
sorry i didn't respond to your posting when i first read it, have been a long while with the moderators, due to the "force and length" of my rantings at the thread link pasted in posting # 21.
as a taxpayer like yourself, i commend the efforts you and others have made to insure the...
his exact words:
..."Yes, Texas (alone) does provide for the use of deadly force under some conditions to protect property, and specifically to prevent theft at night or criminal mischief (defacing property) at night."...
how does my statement claim that other states have, "a statute that...
..."No, it is a statement of fact backed up by Texas state statute."...
did you fail to see other mod's printed word "alone" in parenthesis? why would other state's regulations pertain without that part?
gunnie
so, in light of the opinions at the other thread: how do the advantages of PNV, which allow our soldiers to "own the night" against the trained enemy in the middle east wars lose effectiveness in my back yard against the dreaded untrained criminal adversaries? are american criminals really the...
Personally, I would much rather have my surroundings very brightly illuminated. Interlopers with evil intent will be deterred from coming around in the first place. That's why farmers have those bright lights.
PLEASE READ PREVIOUS EXPLANATIONS. TO ME THIS HIGHLIGHTS THAT YOU ACTUALLY KNOW VERY...
..."The newer thermal optics available to US soldiers are impressive."...
roger that! our machinist at arifjan made up a rotating mount that also had some ninety degrees of elevation adjustment for mounting an elcan thermal monocular on the roof of a HUMMER with an inboard screen fed through...
APIT50,
my original posting was worded to be within the realm of "average"* experience of our soldiers. please indulge my curiosity as to how effective one in my circumstances can hope for the PNV weapon sight to be.....
if this were translated into sillyvillian terms, (IE: no rock and roll...
..."OK, let me try this. When people try to figure out what works for air combat, for law enforcement tactics, self defense, or any other kinds of engagements that happen rarely, the only way they can do it is by simulation and role playing--virtual simulation, force on force exercises, "war...
so it seems an actual NV weapon sight is more effective than the goggles. is this due to requiring point shooting, rather than aimed fire as Tim the student said?
overall, do you feel the reason for CQB loss of advantage is ambient light giving up your position, or do you feel the muzzle flash...
..."The stats there come from simulation, role playing, and training exercises, LEO and other, participated in by many who participate on this board and on The Firing Line. They are the source of my belief on this--I've never played the role of attacker or the role of defender with simunitions...
WHY WOULD I WANT LIGHTS TO ENABLE THOSE WHO COME BY AT NIGHT UNINVITED WITH THE ABILITY TO SEE ME? UNLESS THESE GUYS, LIKE SO MANY OTHERS, ALSO CARRY WEAPONS WITH PNV SIGHTS, IN WHICH CASE LIGHTS THAT POINT AT THEM DOES SEEM LIKE A WISE CHOICE.
gunnie
...consequences--well, those aren't nice guys we're discussing.
SO...IN THIS SCENARIO, THE SPEED FREAK ROBS THE QUICKY-MART, IN AN EFFORT TO GET THE **** OUTTA DODGE AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE, EXITS THE HIGHWAY, ONTO A BUMPY ONE AND ONE HALF LANE FARM-TO-MARKET ROAD THAT ALWAYS NEEDS MORE POTHOLES...
what float pilot has said is likely correct. to make sure before you start tweaking the optic, crank on some more elevation before to make sure the line continues in the same angle of departure as the 200 yard group did.
so far the only way to correctly align the vertical reticle with the...
..."gunnie, you have all kinds of reasons for handling things the way you want, and to you they are good reasons. But the bottom line is that if there are one or more bad guys out there and they are willing to engage you, if you go looking for them, they will have the advantage."...
true, if...
..."Thanks Gunnie.... that looks interesting. They would be handy coyote hunting. "...
not in my case. i have NO sympathy for the locals who promote shooting coycotes, complaining about the current coyote infestation killing deer, while whining about the pasture damage from the piggies. unless...
..."They nay be "just passin' through" when you stumble upon them when they are poaching...
my house is in a clearing, about 125 yds to nearest cover, and much further to more trees/concealment besides two other buildings 25 yards behind the house. these two buildings have only one wall each...
..."What the heck is a PNV?"...
PASSIVE night vision= does not require artificial IR illumination as used by the original army "infrared" night sights from the 1950's. electronically amplifies available light, without sending out a position revealing beacon to others using night vision devices...
..."Then what will your family do?"...
assuming they get past the dog and itself... knowing shots were fired (at least 2), they (wife, son in 20's) will be in the safe room, armed better than i was with close range iron, S-12X10X000 buck, and 1911 both with weapon mount lights and hand held PNV...
