A 9mm moonclipped pocket revolver - yeah, S&W made one - damned if I can import one into the PRK.
The .41 mag GP100. 5-shot is fine. Just make it. I'll buy two, one in 4" and one in 6 or 8".
A rifle: 18" bbl with a 6-shot revolving cylinder chambered in 30-30 or 45-70. (yeah, I know...
Errr, I've loaded a 125 gr. JHP .357 Mag up to 1700 fps. Yeah, it's a serious barnstormer of a round and a delightful range-stopper. And I'm not certain I'd really want to use it for a defense load - although it would be effective.
In any case, a 9mm is a fine round but it isn't a .357...
I carry my 18.5" 336 LTD muzzle down on a sling for quite a few reason:
1. Due to the shortness of the barrel, carrying the gun muzzle up on a sling actually points the barrel at the back of my head when I'm going up hills. NO THANKS.
2. It's more comfortable.
3. I find that I can...
Unique is absolutely superb for what you want to do. It's a bit on the dirty side, but otherwise is a wonderful powder.
You will be just fine with Unique.
Well, my Dad and I have a hunt coming up - actually, this will be our first hunt ever together and is also the first time my dad has agreed to go hunting in over 20 years. Maybe closer to 25 years. Btw, I'm 37, Dad's 66.
In any case, a very good fishing buddy of my Dad offered to have us...
I just ran a test batch of 6.0-7.0 PP under a 158 gr. Hardcast TCFP.
I haven't chrono'ed them, but 6.4gr. "feels" right for a moderate load. Pressure is not really any different than 6.5gr of Unique - which is well within pressure limits. My estimate is around 1200fps based on Unique load...
I'd love to say the handloads are an issue, but the same exact handloads fit just find in my GP100. And it's only three of the chambers, not all six. If it was all six I could believe it was my reloads...
Gotta find a gunsmith...
The factory response is going to be, I can guarantee, "we chamber our guns for factory ammunition, period." I would be looking at why the reloads are sticky. Are the reloads yours or commercial? If they're yours, do you full length resize (is the die adjusted to size the case fully)? Any chance...
Ok, disassembled the cylinder - the #6 & #1 chambers are the tightest. I'm not convinced that the ejector isn't exacerbating the problem a bit, but the cylinder is a bit tight.
Now, it WILL accept factory brand new loads without issue. It's reloads that give me a bit of problem (and then...
Wil,
Help me out just a bit more...what is a chambering reamer? Is this something a slightly better than average Joe shadetree mech can do? Where do I get said "reamer"? How does it work?
Ok, I have Security Six. Like the gun, but I've got a problem. It appears that three of the chambers are mis-bored.
Starting with a perfectly clean gun, insert six rounds:
Chamber 1: Fits reloads and factory rounds perfectly.
Chamber 2: as above.
Chamber 3: as above.
Chamber 4...
Bunny Wabbits with a 6" GP100 w/ Holosight. Huge fun!
I also use my .35 Remington on bunnies out to 200 - I have some very lovely rounds made of a 125gr jhp over some IMR 4895 - silly good accuracy (under 1" @ 100 yards). Bullet pushes out at around 2300fps...
For grins that most people...
Pick,
I shoot a .350 Rem Mag - ballistically the same as the .35 Whelen, but on a short action.
I gotta tell ya, there is one fundamental difference between the .350 and the Whelen: the .350RM is maximized with the 225gr. bullet in my my Rem. 673 short action rifle. In the Whelen, the...
Fat,
I dunno if this helps at all, but in the case of low volume reloading I use a "Trim Die". Screws into the press and when you raise a casing into the die ONLY the part that needs to be trimmed sticks out. I use a metal file to shave down the case to the proper length.
Trim die's...
IF you are going to hunt or shoot long range steel sillouhette, get a 6".
For anything else get the 4".
Smith vs. Ruger? If you want to pump tens of thousands of rounds of full magnum loads through it, get the Ruger. It will hold up better and is far less likely to go out of time. If...
Bullock,
There's been a lot of good advice given here. If you lived in So. Cal. I'd gladly let you borrow a Winchester .357 carbine. It's truly a wonderful rifle that will indeed do the jobs you are asking about. Just some other comments to your questions:
1. Can you use pistol ammo in...
