I recently purchased a .357 mag and I love the noise and the feeling of the recoil and muzzle blast..what can I shoot out of a semi that is comparable to that...10mm, 357SIG..what semi would be an attention getter at the range ?

If you've got nothing to contribute but a rolling eyes smiley, just ignore the post. To answer Don, recoil and muzzle blast also depend on gun weight and barrel length, as well as caliber. But the high powered auto calibers are pretty rare. 10mm is probably the most common. There's .44 automag, 50ae, 50gi etc, but all pretty rare and expensive.

A Desert Eagle (in any caliber; it doesn't really matter) is the perfect automatic pistol if your priority is attention at the range.

yep

+1 for the Desert Eagle, get it in .357 mag so you can use the same ammo.

LAR Grizzly in .45 WinMag or .50 AE. Desert Eagle is good as well. Just be prepared for the costs of entertainment...

For attention getting...I like really hot 38 super or 45 super. For something a little more commercially available, the 357 sig makes a pretty nice bang :D

I think he said HE enjoys the blast, and whatnot. "Attention getter" was just his way of saying lots of blast and recoil, i.e., it really gets your attention, and it's at the range because that's the place he shoots it. Not my cup of tea, but I know lots of people who like the feeling of a big bucking handgun. Rifles too. That's not to say I don't shoot them, just don't particularly get a kick out of the heavy kick. Starts to hurt, and then comes the flinch.

Get one of the Wildey guns. .475 Wildey sounds about right. Of course, it is real expensive for a noisemaker. Maybe a Desert Eagle in .50 AE or .44 magnum. I had an AMT Automag II in .22 magnum that was quite a noisemaker. Impressive fireball and lots of good quality noise. Not much good for anything else, but might fit your bill. I got rid of it long ago, for that very reason. The best will, of course, be revolvers. .500SW, .454s, and maybe Magnum Research's .45-70 revolver.

When I shoot hand cannons I try to get as far away from everybody else as possible. Even try to outside if possible. I don't want the concussion from my gun to give the next guy a flinch he's waste time and ammo eliminating. Also, take care. These loud guns invariably have punishing recoil. John Taffin has written more than once about how his testosterone laden loads over the years have precipitated advanced arthritis in his wrist (once even showed X-rays that were both interesting and unsettling).

I find that I get a lot of attention at the range when I shoot really tight groups and look like I know what I am doing. That and only wearing a speedo while singing Hasselshoff songs seems to help.......

I was at the range today and there was a guy next to me who just wouldn't shut up about his kimber. He was being very obnoxius, and i'm even a Kimber owner myself.:p

Different guns serve different purposes. Big bang is not all I care about at all (its just the focus of this thread). But if I have the means, I should and will get guns that serve different rolls ( HD, SD, BUG, BBQ ect..). Thank you to those who just answered the question instead of trying to find a reason to bash someone. If this is a post youd rather not contribute to, just dont contribute. To leave little smileys and make assumptions is childish.

Blasters

While I'm in the category of folks who occasionally enjoys the romp/stomp and concussion generated by the big boomers, it's generally considered ill-mannered to touch off one of those things repeatedly in a crowded indoor range without at least giving prior warning of your intent. Outdoor ranges are fair game, but a warning to a shooter in the next lane would be a common courtesy.

Get y'self a 4-inch .44 Magnum...Handload with H-110 or Olin 296...and go blow feathers off the birds flyin' overhead.

I've never owned one, but they say that a handgun in .30 Carbine is a real blaster. The only autoloader I'm familiar with was from AMT, but I believe it's discontinued now.

.30 Carbine

Oh...my...GAWD!

If ya plan on more than about 50 rounds in a day, I strongly advise packin' a bottle of Excedrin Migraine in the range bag. Those things are unbelieveable!
You can occasionally run up on a Ruger Blackhawk chambered for the little .30 Carbine at gun shows. Starting to gain a bit of collector interest these days, so expect to pay a premium...but if loud is your game...this is the one. Makes a .357 Magnum sound like a cap pistol. Wear earplugs under your muffs. Trust me on this one.

What about a .460 Roland conversion kit?

I have a DE .50 and it is rather loud, blasty, and fun. Oh and $$
I still have not shot my SA V-16 yet.
