Thanks guys. I guess I'm one of those people who will over think this. I thought i was clear, but now I'm lost again.
thanks for trying to help. I have a feeling that a range finder will not be a good investment.
And this question is just out of general curiosity. if I were directly behind my rifle barrel, barrel coming out of my eyeball actually.
Would I then be compensating as I originally thought?
JohnSka..thank you. Light just went on. Never thought about the elevation differences using the scope. Always think of my self as directly behind the barrel.
1858, that helps. Do you use the same formula for closer ranges such as bowhunting ranges?
Now that I think about it I missed my...
MCGunner, I just don't follow the logic. I'm looking at diagrams and it's greek to me. If I aim downhill my bullet returns to ground sooner so I compensate with a slight holdover. Uphill, the bullet will travel over my target unless I hold under the target.
Now I know I'm wrong, but I look...
Oh boy, this is going to be harder than I thought. Even looking at the illustrations is confusing. If I range my target at a certain distance right now I think I want to plan on that distance, but compensate for the angle.
Shooting downhill I'll aim up to compensate, shooting uphill I'll...
You want to aim lower for a downhill AND uphill shot? I struggle with geometry and this makes no sense to me.
If I use a rangefinder and see a whitetail 100 yds out downhill my instinct is to aim slightly higher.
I bought these for $8/100. Who is the manufacturer? I think they're 140 gr, but I haven't weighed them yet. They were bagged in ziplocks from an estate sale.
This is a softpoint, but the jacket comes right up to the edge of the lead tip.
Power Pistol is very consistent in my experience. Titegroup is problematic for drops. I have a routine which I'm comfortable with to get consistent drops, but I understand what you are saying.
I picked up a very nice heavy barrel Rem 700 BDL in .308. I'd like to swap out the stock for a synthetic one. Are there any recommendations for stocks that balance price and quality? Some of the ones I'm looking at cost more than the rifle. That's a little crazy to me.
I found a posting from a book and I'm going to feel pretty dumb if it turns out to be true. The recommendation is not to sight in your slug gun like a rifle. The shooter needs to hold the forend while shooting to help reduce the jump from recoil. The slug moves slower than a rifle bullet and...
Ever since Remingtion tripled the price of their copper solid line and stopped manufacturing their buckhammers I have been looking for an accurate replacement hunting slug. I have gone through Federal's Fusion line, Brenneke's sabots, and Fiocchi's aerotek lines. The results have not been...
Am I able to do it. I spent a couple of hours looking on line and found many different opinions but no answers. Called atf in ny and was referred to nypd. At least atf admitted they didn't know. Nypd didn't know either. I politely thanked them for their time.
Reason I am asking is because...
I've been shooting for a long time shutting my left eye, and using my right open eye. I am finding that I am left eye dominant and I'd like to shoot with both eyes open. Is anyone aware of how I could train myself to use both open eyes.
What are the thoughts of using a 5.5 in Ruger blackhawk for hunting vs a 7.5 in? I may or may not scope it depends on my middle aged eyes.
I had a scoped 6in 629 in the past, and I don't see what difference a 1/2 inch less in the barrel would make. The shorter barrel would carry better, and...
