    Installing new thumb latch

Well, that's what it looked like. Funny how stuff like that can be deceiving, though. I'll take your advice and be careful, as well as a preventative measure. Thanks!

    Installing new thumb latch

Got an Ed Brown extended thumb latch for my 686. What is the procedure? Is it simply removing the screw or is there more to it than that? Appreciate any help.

    Pachmayr with Lanyard

Here's a pic At the base of the grip, on the bottom, there is a 1/8" slot from front to back. It is about 1-1/4" in length. Sticking through this slot is a 1" lanyard ring that swivels, just like a rifle sling swivel. (might be) Again, it's done exactly right. Looking at the inside, it...

    Pachmayr with Lanyard

Slot for serial number? Somebody on another forum says that the slot is to see the serial number on the grip frame. I have a closed back Gripper without this. I'm not sure, but you absolutely cannot tell it isn't factory. And you are right, it is absolutely awesome. It swivels, stays...

    Pachmayr with Lanyard

I have a set of Pachmayr open backstrap Gripper for a K frame. The really weird thing is that they have a lanyard ring. It's absolutely factory, being that it has a 1/8th inch slot running along the bottom of them for this feature. I cannot find this anywhere. Has anyone else seen these...

    Short barrels and red dots

BTW, nice vests, Ken. Very good idea. Look nice, with another reason. Like it a lot. Would look nice with my Kangol.

    Short barrels and red dots

You guys are confirming what I already thought. Just wanted second opinions. I just got a Warne Maxima Weaver base for $20 unopened. When I bought my 686, I wanted an "all-rounder" and I've been toying with the idea of using it for hunting. This opened the door. Any other thoughts?

    Short barrels and red dots

Is a 4" revolver inherently less accurate than a 8"? I realize that velocity is not up to par, but is it less accurate? With iron sights, I also realize that sight radius may be the problem. Would a red dot overcome the barrel difference, notwithstanding the velocity? As usual, any...

    Old grips on newer Smiths?

I figured as much. People don't like change. On plastics, the old timers would be thinking of old bakelite radios and such. (Ha!) Plastics are freaking amazing today. While a Glock has never pointed well for me, a person could get quite used to it or its kind. It is within 1% of the...

    Old grips on newer Smiths?

The 686 is an L frame, but uses the K grips. I don't worry about the new changes too much. There were probably tons of old timers, back in the 60's, complaining about how you don't need a shrouded ejector. They probably said it threw the balance off and made them unworthy of the name. I can...

    Old grips on newer Smiths?

I've found a customer maker that does these every once in awhile for modern K/L frames. $50. (see pic) Needs the medallions, but hey, you can't have everything. Thanks for the pic Dangerman. That helps me visualize it. With the T grips, it'd be an easy carry piece. Hiding the butt is the...

    Old grips on newer Smiths?

Yeah, they are good looking. Guess custom is probably the only way to go. Big bucks!

    Old grips on newer Smiths?

Just curious. Would old grips like these fit on a modern K/L square butt frame? How far back can I go for a retro look? Thanks ahead of time.

looking at new revolver possible 357

For the purposes mentioned, I'd go with a Model 60. Shoot with 38's. Finishing shot with 357. Carry size and weight is a concern for both CCW and hunting. You won't be doing a lot of 357 recreational shooting, but that's a good reason to shoot 38's (one of the only that I can see).
