    A muzzleloader that wouldn't fire...

Most people here speak of using fff or ffff trough the back. Is there anything wrong with using ff? I only have ff at the moment as that is what I shoot with. Thanks.

    A muzzleloader that wouldn't fire...

Nice to see all the different points of view on this. It looks as though shooting it out works better most of the time. I thought about the CO2 things, but none of the local stores carry them and it was quicker to go to the gunsmith then order online. I would ask what the story is with...

    A muzzleloader that wouldn't fire...

Well, it has been a long time since I was here! I just had an experience with my Investarm 120B Hawken percussion cap (.54 caliber) and wanted to share it for others who may run into the same problem. I had put away this rifle with plenty of oil because I didn't see myself shooting it for...

Analysis of NRA on Meet the Press?

You know what they always say, "Never let a good crisis go unused." It looks like a "perfect storm" of sorts has come about and is being used to undermine the Second Ammendment. I honeslty don't know what you can do to reason with people. They like to talk about "having an open mind" yet...

    The next rifle to buy...

Sorry about how long ago this thread was started. I've been busy and had things come up. Saddly, that means I didn't get anything. Thanks for all the replies, advice, and interest.

    The old Steyr m95

Nice article! Perhaps one of these days I'll get into reloading, but not yet. The point was made that these are no harder to feed than a k31. I guess that is probably true. I don't find 7.5 swiss for my k31 and 96/11 very often, but there is always a source online.

    The old Steyr m95

Too bad that I'm not old enough for a C&R... Thanks for the help. I know of a few sources for clips so that was never a problem in my mind. However, it does seems as though feeding this rifle would be a bit of a pain.

    The old Steyr m95

In a previous post I mentioned that I've been looking at the m95 straight pull rifles at J&G sales. My question to you is this: is there a cheaper source for them? I've heard that $180 is a bit steep (and I would tend to agree). I have not been able to find another dealer that has them...

Thinking about buying a Mosin Nagant

You may be able to find a better price, but $120 isn't too bad. Since I got mine online, it came out to about $120 after shipping and the transfer fee.

    The next rifle to buy...

I actually didn't think of the M1 as it is usualy out of my price range, I'll be sure to look into that. Does anyone have any judgements on the Snider-Enfields? I was leaning towards one of them because of the history and the interesting action.

    The next rifle to buy...

Hey everyone! This summer I'll probably have enough spare cash to buy a more expensive gun than my usual $250-ish price range. That is, I might be able to swing something around the $600 range. Anyhoo, if you were in my situation, which of the following would you buy? 1) Persian...

    Mosin Nagant...

Just think about it, for $100 you get: A spear, A pole vault, A tent pole, A hammer, A club, And a rifle all in one!

    First hunting rifle

@Kachok I'm not trying to push the Mosin, it's just that when I here "first hunting rifle" it reminds me of my first car, an el cheapo beater. If you start out with a clunker, you come to appriciate almost anything else.

    First hunting rifle

Of the rounds mentioned, I would go with 30-06 because it does its job well and no self respecting gun shop would fail to carry it. I'm sad you were willing to drop $1000 towards the gun. Otherwise, I could have steered you towards the $100 Mosin:evil:. In all seriousness, any of the rounds...

    Bolt Action .223, 5.56, or 7.62x39

When you say you want something inexpensive are you refering to the round as well? That is, have you mentioned 7.62x39, .223, etc. because you know that they are cheaper rounds or do you just want to shoot a smaller round. If you want a dirt cheap full rifle round you could look into the...

Talk me out of doing something silly

I'm going to second the 45-70 crowd. You can get a nice lever action that will work with your wrong handedness very well.

Feel free to move this to the muzzleloading section if that is a better fit.

    Muzzleloader Season in Oregon?

Hey everybody, I was looking through my hunting manual and the ODFW website and find references to muzzleloader season (that is, they reference that it is illegal to use a non-muzzleloader durring such seasons) but it does not say when there is such a season. Further, it doesn't even flat...
