    40 S&W minimum bullet diameter

Sorry - I did mean to write .395 Bummer - not looking forward to taking all these apart.

    40 S&W minimum bullet diameter

Hey Folks, I loaded up a couple hundred rounds today and noticed a few rounds with set back. After checking all two hundred I was able to push 24 of the bullets into the case by pushing the micrometer. After taking a few apart, the bullets were measuring as low as .0395. I gather this is the...

M&P Pro 40 - Failure to Feed Issue

Hello Folks, I have a new M&P 40 Pro that is having failure to feed issues. Round is getting stuck on the feed ramp. Not a mag problem - happens with several. It is worse with lighter loads which I can understand with everything being tight and stiff recoil spring in a new pistol. But, I...

    Strange Bullet Markings

Hey RC - I meant to mention I shoot at an indoor range in Canada. No opportunity to shoot outdoors and recover a bullet. That would be best bet to see what is happening. Maybe shoot into telephone book or something like that or would that just mangle it? I scrubbed barrel with a Tornado...

    Strange Bullet Markings

Still Happening Have not had the new M&P out to the range much lately, but did manage to go last night. I am still getting these weird markings around the bullet hole. Will post another picture - used fresh cardboard, plated berry's 180 gr (but did happed with Hornady jacketed as well) Not a...

    Strange Bullet Markings

Could be the target - although was attached to a new piece of corrugated I brought with me. I have shot thousands of rounds through these targets and never noticed markings like these until this new gun. I will take my camera with me next trip to the range and get a better picture if it is...

    Strange Bullet Markings

Figured I would stick with the reloading section as there is a lot of experience with ammunition here. I picked a new M&P 40 Pro 5". Tried some of my standard reloads (180gr Berry's with 4.7gr. W231) and was getting an odd marking around the bullet hole. I tried some factory federal 180gr...

    Ultrasonic Case Cleaning

I have read this thread before as well. After ultrasonic cleaning I rinse with nice hot water and then use a small compressor with air nozzle to blow them dry. Still need to sit over night to fully dry, but compressed air gets most of the water off. Just another option. Cheers,

    Seating depth with cannelure

Got it. The data was for Hornady XTP and what I have is Winchester JHP. so, I will seat deeper to half or more of the cannelure and a little more crimp as well. Makes sense as revelver rounds are not as sensitive to col as pistol rounds. Learning as I go. Thanks for the info.

    Seating depth with cannelure

Hello all, I have been loading some 357 with 158gr plated bullets and now picked up some jacketed to try with the cannelure with a roll crimp. The data suggests 1.590, but even seating to 1.585 still looks to high. Will attach a picture - is this normal? All the factory loads I have look...

    My First Squib

I had my first squib this week in a 38 spec. round. I have loaded over a thousand rounds of 40 S&W without issue. It is easy to verify the charge with the 40 cal. 38 special is different - little more difficult to do a visual check. My confidence is a little shaken as I felt that I had been...

Oh Canada! - Why nobody ships to me?

I certainly would not want to get anyone in trouble. I will have to check out Midway again. I didn't think they shipped to Canada?

Oh Canada! - Why nobody ships to me?

It can be tough to get what you are after for reloading up here in Canada. There are 3 places I can go within an hour drive, one of which is Bass Pro who are rediculously over priced compared to there US counterpart. Example: The Hornady LNL AP on the Bass Pro Website is $439.99 - In the...

    357 case sizing

Great tips and advice - Thank you. What is the best tool for trimming 38 and 357 brass? When I go to reload the brass for a second time, it may be a good idea to trim and get them all even.

    357 case sizing

Perfect - Thanks. Another question on these 357 rounds with 158gr bullet and 12.0gr of 2400. How much is the presure affected by the COL? Example: With a COL target of 1.585 with this load, which is not too heavy, maybe about 1,000 fps - how much of an effect on pressure will seating @ 1.575...

    357 case sizing

Hey Folks, I have been loading 40S&W for a couple months and just starting to do some 38/357 as well. I have noticed that the cases do not seem to get sized all the way down. It was a bit noticable on the 40 cal, but now more so on the 357 cases. Loading on a Hornady LNL AP. The sizing die...

    RCBS dies for 38/357

Ah - I see. I couldn't find anything in the instructions about it. Neat feature. Thanks.

    RCBS dies for 38/357

I picked up as set of RCBS dies today for my 38 & 357 loading. I have read that they are good sizing dies - hopefully good seaters as well. Question is: it came with a separate bag with two seater plugs and a large washer. What is the large washer for? Is it to give the die a little more...

S&B 357 Mag Brass with small primer

On the topic of primers. What is different about the Non-Toxic primers used in Federal and Winchester NT rounds. Is it lead or other toxins that are removed from those primers? I have some Federal NT that I need to remove the crimp from and wondered what the difference is and are they higher...
