2-3 thousandths isn’t a problem at all in my opinion. I wouldn’t worry about it.
But I’d continue to measure each cartridge and make adjustments when needed.
I’ve shot 124 grain RMR MPR bullets using WSF powder into water jugs.
I’ve tested 5.3 down to 5.0 grains of powder in .1 grain increments. I also read RMR’s suggested velocity for expansion but was trying to see if it will expand at slower speeds as well.
All bullets expanded very well but...
I had this EXACT same issue with a lee 4 die .357/38 set and hornady 125 grain XTP bullets.
While I didn’t spent a crazy amount of time attempting to remedy the situation, I found that I had to ditch the .357/38 flare die and use a Lee universal expanding die to allow the bullet to start...
I shoot reloads in my Gen 3 G22, my Gen 5 G19 and my G43x.
While I do use the Lee bulge buster on all of my 40 cal brass, I’ve never had a problem…..and probably don’t need to run all of my cases through the Lee bb. But it makes me feel better and I think it only costs about $15 on Midway.
I’ve loaded RMR 180 grain bullets with WSF and had a great time shooting them in my Gen 3 G22. Zero issues. I believe I’d use 5.8-5.9 grains, though I’d need to check my notes.
I’ve also loaded many RMR 124 grain MPR HP 9mm loads using WSF as well. With that load I settled on 5.1 grains I...
Most of my reloading equipment is from Lee. I only started reloading a bout 18 months or so ago and purchased Lee due to the price and the many positive reviews I read online.
I can't really say Lee is as good or better than other brands. But their products work well for me.
Look at those beautiful magnum pistol powders. H110 and IMR 4227 are two of my favorites. I just love loading up magnum pistol cartridges and shooting out in the desert.
I need to load some 480 Ruger. I picked up a Blackhawk a while back but haven't loaded for it yet. I'm going to use H110 as...
Here are a couple borescope pics of my chamber. You can clearly see what's causing the rings on the fired brass.
When I use the scope inside the brass, I do not see any markings. They seem to have been scared on the outside only. But I've only looked at three pieces so far.
Is this rifle good...
I agree, Coalcracker. I’ve wanted a borescope forever anyways.
I’m interested to see what the inside of my surplus military rifle bores will look like.
Will be fun to take a look.
Sorry...forgot to say that my reloads were created on the work bench and then inserted into my Magpul & Hexmag magazines. They were never in a case that would have left a ring on the brass.
Same for the factory ammo. They come in a box/bag of 1,000 loose rounds. And I loaded them straight into...
UPDATE: I also fired some factory Federal 55 grain 5.56 rounds and they have the same marking on all of the cases. Although, they're a little harder to see. Guess I didn't look close enough before.
Plus, I can see a ring inside my chamber that appears to correlate with the marks on the cases...
I recently fired some of my 223 reloads in a brand a new Ruger AR-15. While they all shot well and properly fed/cycled the rifle, it looks like I have a problem.
I've never had a case head separate and am not sure if that's what almost happened here. When I read about the warning signs of case...
While this isn’t exactly what you asked for, maybe it can help.
One pic is the loading data for a 275 grain Speer jacketed bullet for 480 Ruger.
The 2nd pic is the loading data for the 275 grain Barnes XPB for 475 Linebaugh.
Both from Lyman’s 50th edition.
This is what I'm referring to.....I zero-ed the calipers using a brass case that to the best of my knowledge was correctly full length resized and then compared it to the 50 cases I resized previously.
The 50 cases resized in the first session are slightly shorter (from head to shoulder) than...
I apologize. I wrote "neck" but meant shoulder.
It's 113 degrees in Vegas right now and I'm sweating bullets in my garage remeasuring all of my 308 cases and typing on my laptop.
I'm also measuring my shell holders and I agree with you Walkalong....they should not have effected how far back...
I have a few hundred .308 cases that I've picked up in the desert over the last couple years.
After purchasing a new Savage Axis II .308 rifle from Walmart, I picked out 50 Federal cases from my stash and full length resized them. However, I'm a total moron and grabbed the wrong shell holder...
