The only thing I had to do to mine was file the excess plastic sticking out from where they molded it. There was a small ridge sticking out near the hammer slot in the back that would cut up my hand from rubbing. took 2 minutes with a pocket knife and a small file to remove.

If you want a bolt action, take a good look at the Savage Mark II with accu-trigger. I have one and I love it, it is very accurate.

Is there any reason you didn't call the next day and report the incident to the manager/ call the corporate office and file a complaint? If employees are behaving like that, its possible they will lose their jobs.

Alot of municipalities have permit laws requiring these 'salesman' to be registered and have a permit. I would find out if your city/borough/county/township has such a regulation and if so, report the activity to the police.
