    HKs...okay thread

So far I like my USP 45. No failures and no complaints. On average it's more reliable than my 1911 and just as accurate.

Would you take the AR15 or M1 Garand?

I'd opt for the AR. Easier to pack around, better ergonomics, and a "rack-grade" AR is more accurate than a "rack-grade" Garand. As for the Garand's 600-800m. range, not much of a factor as most people aren't capable of hitting something at that range. Everybody isn't Carlos Hathcock or...

    3-gun with an AK-47/74?

Depends on the 3-gun tourny. Some of us opt for "Redneck unlimited class" where some course stages require different ammunition. Last one I was at required match ammo for distance, AP for covered target stages, and incendiary for another stage.

    Glock 29 10mm

The horror stories are overrated. It's no worse than .357 Mag in a similar sized pistol.

    Anyone own a Marlin 1895 45-70?

I own a Marlin 1895SSBL. I love it, as it has four things I'd been looking for in a rifle... Lever action, carbine length, .45-70 chambering, and a very nice set of iron sights. As for price, I paid $750 for it.

    mini 14 vs. socom 16

The accuracy debate changes with a 580 series Mini-14. Groups of less than 2" have been done with the 580 Mini-14's at 100-115yards, which is in the range for El Cheapo AR-15s. And with Ruger and Pro-Mag making quality 20 and 30 round magazines for them, capacity is equally "up there". In the...

    Best 1911 for the money

I'd have to vote for Taurus. Mainly because I wanted a 1911 in .38 Super. That chambering is usually a $150-300 premium from the well known makers and the only other maker of a reasonably priced .38 Super 1911 is RIA, when you can find them. Add in stainless steel and that's another $200+ premium.

Mags are like ammo, you can never have enough.

I've had good experiences with Ruger products, so I'll reserve judgment until it's been out for a bit.

    Which *Reliable* .45 Auto?

I haven't run into a bad .45ACP pistol. My personal experience is with the following... Colt M1991 Series 80; works fine. Ruger P90 and P345; both will eat anything you feed them. Sig 220; Nice gun Glock 21; good dependable gun... subject to my personal prejudice against striker...

How many 40 S&W rounds does it take to stop a tiger?

Sounds like the SFPD got lucky. If the charging mechanism of a big cat like a lion or tiger is tripped..... well, many a big game hunter was known to recommend .375 H&H for lions and tigers normally, and field artillery for one charging you.

    Interesting Case (FOPA MG Ban)

You'd do better to use the court's decision in Miller to attack the FOPA ban because the USSC only upheld the NFA due to it being a revenue generation measure. Thus logically, the NFA registry is only legal so long as its purpose is to generate revenue. Closing the registry, violates that...

If you were a soldier in Iraq and had a choice of combat rounds, 7.62x39 or 5.56?

5.56 in a M16A4 only. It's useless in a M4. Otherwise, 7.62x39mm. It was practically designed with the Russian's lessons from Stalingrad still painfully in mind. It can penetrate barriers 5.56x45mm cannot, it's as accurate as it needs to be for 200-250m. engagement ranges. At those ranges, M855...

If anything, the 1911 and its progeny are more popular amongst the present generation than they ever were with prior generations.

Things people bring to the range to shoot at.

Being a PC tech by day my favorite targets are... 15" CRTs eMachines towers Clean up afterwards is not optional. Though some schmuck hauled a fridge up there and it's just about been whittled down to the point we can crush it up into a ball in a truck bed.
