We go downtown all the time. Never a problem or even a nervous moment. Mag mile, State Street, crowds (not the taste), Navy Pier, and Museum Campus are all generally fine. Stay in condition yellow & stay sober. Bad guys generally will look for easier prey in darker, lesser traveled areas.
