I had asked for 4lbs of Longshot for Christmas, my dad was at Sportsmans Warehouse today and asked if they had any. They had ONE 4lb keg left, so my dad bought it.:D That's fine with me, because next week, I would have been SOL. I'll just act surprised and gratified on Christmas day.:D

Damn, I love reloading. I'm pretty much a 40 S&W loadin' junkie, its like an addiction, can't seem to quit, lol. These are 165 gr Ranier's with 7 grains Longshot, its pretty sweet, I really like how they shoot.:)

This is a good load, it thumps.:D I was getting 1085-1100 fps on my chrony, the extreme spread over 5 shots was only 15 fps. This is good stuff.:D

It should be higher than this. This is the minimum charge for a 170 grain jacketed, according to my Lee 2nd Edition book, I'm loading 165 grain Raniers. This velocity is well below the indicated 942 fps, what gives? I'm gonna have to up the charge to at least 7 grains to get into the 900 fps...

I loaded 25 rounds of Ranier 165 grain, 10.2 grains of AA#9, I'm curious as to how well it will perform. Since the 40 is a high pressure round, I'm thinking it should do alright. This isn't a load I'm going to adopt, I'm just curious.:D The 10.2 grain load is from my Lee 2nd Edition book...

I'm loading 6.5 grains of AA #5 behind a 165 gr Ranier and 8.4 grains of AA#7 behind a 165 gr Ranier. I loaded 50 of each for velocity and accuracy testing, I do have a chrony.:) I've read several threads on THR where both of these powder perform well in the 40 S&W. I'm in the experimentation...

I bought 1lb yesterday and figured I'd give it a shot. I'm planning on using 9 grains behind a 165 grain Ranier, should produce a good load. Anyone else have experience with Blue Dot in 40 S&W, how's it worked out for you?

I mainly want to load Ranier target loads, I'm looking at Titegroup, Ramshot Zip, Longshot, Accurate #5, Unique, and Power Pistol. Which would you pick in an 8lb keg?

Mine is Unique, accurate, consistent, fills the case for a given charge, gives me great velocities. For full power Jacketed bullet loads, I like Hodgdon Longshot, I can push 155 grain XTP's over 1300 fps with this powder.:D
