I can't say too much. Our police chief was in Washington for the big gun-grabber push a while back and one of our city council members flew to NYC to get instruction from bloomberg on grabbing.
Sadly, Austin isn't like anywhere else in Texas.
My dad built a gun safe into our house that doubled as a telephone stand and book storage. Never had a rust problem and thieves would have never found it.
Local Wal Mart had 5 boxes of .380 today @ 4pm. First stuff I've seen on those shelves in a while. There are 4 of them close by and on the way to other things. All always have bare shelves since Nov.

I bought a used Taurus that had occasional ftf issues. (The seller told me about it and adjusted the price accordingly)
I sent it to Taurus and they fixed it for free. Several hundred rounds later, it still shot great.
There was no hassle and all it cost beyond the (very discounted) purchase...
Went to Cabela's in Buda, TX yesterday. No 9mm, no .22, very few pistol rounds. Lots of 7.62 x 54r for about twice what it used to cost. The pistol/rifle magazine section is 1/4 as large as it used to be. They did at least have some rifles for sale.

Just going on what I know of the Austin PD and their chief, who all but held obama's hand through this last push against the 2nd amendment, I wouldn't count on a majority of police officers to side with "civilians".
I did a "converted" life membership, where I converted one where I paid monthly to the full deal.
I had no problems. I even asked for extra stickers after someone stole mine. No problem...they sent new ones immediately.
