Your rifle is definitely a post Remington take over rifle. Anything built prior to them closing the Marlin plant is stamped North Haven, CT. Have a nice W myself that I picked up new in 09; serial starts with 92 if that helps. :)

That little gem is known as the Marlin bullseye, and a lot of folks tend to mount their sling swivels right in the middle of them. Nice rifle BTW.:)

I put a Supercell pad on my 870 a few years ago and love it. Really takes the bite out 3" slugs; had no issues even when shooting from a bench.Only problem I had were the screw holes were a good 1/4" off. Had a bear of a time trying to put it on.

The 44 Mag would be good for shotgun distances. Granted, I like my shotguns; but if my state allowed pistol caliber rifles; I would drop the shotgun, and go with a levergun in a heartbeat. Better accuracy, handling,lighter, and much less recoil.

Can't you still use a pistol caliber rifle in Indiana? A lever gun in .44 Mag would probably be a better choice.
