    Marlin 336W

Your rifle is definitely a post Remington take over rifle. Anything built prior to them closing the Marlin plant is stamped North Haven, CT. Have a nice W myself that I picked up new in 09; serial starts with 92 if that helps. :)

    Marlin 336

That little gem is known as the Marlin bullseye, and a lot of folks tend to mount their sling swivels right in the middle of them. Nice rifle BTW.:)

Remington 870 Express SM recoil pad

I put a Supercell pad on my 870 a few years ago and love it. Really takes the bite out 3" slugs; had no issues even when shooting from a bench.Only problem I had were the screw holes were a good 1/4" off. Had a bear of a time trying to put it on.

I Can't Take It Any More!!!

I never had an issue buying some things that imported either since some countries are renowned for their craftsmanship in certain areas; firearms are among them. Some of the ones on my wish list were never made here.I like Swiss watches and chocolate too.:)

    Walther PK380

Have one; it is the worst firearm I have purchased, and is getting traded in on a Bersa Thunder ASAP. First thing I noticed was the lack of a slide release, which is fine if the clip has ammo in it, but if the clip is empty I find that I have to push down on the mag follower to get the slide to...

Another bad day at Knob Creek

What ever happened to unless asked; keep thy boogie hooks off other peoples equipment? Nothing worse than a range busybody.

    best cartridge for this aplication?

My opinion was based on the OP's desire to go after smaller fur bearing critters, not the cartriges effective range. Blasting something that I have no interest in keeping a pelt or meat such as a prairie dog or a chuck; then yes I would go with many of the fine calibers mentioned. I don't think...

    best cartridge for this aplication?

30-30 is easy to reload, can be loaded from a .310 round ball over Unique, (Hornady makes a great little round ball for this;excellent for rabbit/squirrel hunting without destroying a lot of meat) up to the 190gr Hawk. I'm currently loading up a 'yote load with the Sierra 110gr Varmiter. So yes...

    Marlin 30-30 or Norinco SKS

The North Haven plant was closed & the experienced guys that built them were given their walking papers. Production then moved to Illion NY.They haven't been built right since.

    Why no more 16 gauge?

"You must not have looked very hard on the 16ga site, i found this quite fast" Didn't look for the info over there; I clicked on the linked posted earlier, and only saw a picture of a couple of gents with shotguns.....wouldn't let me go any farther.:o

    Why no more 16 gauge?

Same here. This did get my curiosity spiked.I did some googleing myself, and looked at a number of cartridge collecting sites and turned up nothing.Would like to see an example. If the world of firearms has taught me something, that would be to never say never. I'm sure somebody has probably...

    Why no more 16 gauge?

The old 16 hasn't totally disappeared. There are still a few manufacturers making them. Off the top of my head, Browning still offers a BPS pump, and Ithaca is offering a 16 GA pump as well. And there are a few others making double guns as well. But Virginian did hit it with the reasoning behind...

Bolt action versus pump shot gun

The 44 Mag would be good for shotgun distances. Granted, I like my shotguns; but if my state allowed pistol caliber rifles; I would drop the shotgun, and go with a levergun in a heartbeat. Better accuracy, handling, lighter, and much less recoil.

Bolt action versus pump shot gun

Can't you still use a pistol caliber rifle in Indiana? A lever gun in .44 Mag would probably be a better choice.

    only 1 shotgun

Tough to beat an 870.With a few different barrels, they can be set up for many different needs. An 18" for HD, Deer Hunting with slugs, put on a Cantilever scope mount barrel, or for general field use or a day at the clays range, put on a 28" vent rib barrel. Can be set up for many different...

    New Stevens, need some opinions.

I'm thinking, stick with option #1. Give it a restocking, and enjoy; they are wonderful shotguns.:)
