Mossberg 500 20ga youth model (Im a little guy) .It sits by my bed every night . Most people snicker when I tell them its a youth model but after they shoot it they like the size& the way it handles . Very easy to manuever around tight corners in a house .

Remington 11-87, 12 gauge, 28" with a set of choke tubes. I can't believe I'm the only one?

Tough to beat an 870.With a few different barrels, they can be set up for many different needs. An 18" for HD, Deer Hunting with slugs, put on a Cantilever scope mount barrel, or for general field use or a day at the clays range, put on a 28" vent rib barrel. Can be set up for many different needs in a matter of seconds.:)

I just picked up a new Mossberg 930SPX and am beginning to really like it. My house gun has been a Mossy 590 mil-spec for a number of years while my wife has the S/S 12 gauge coach gun on her side of the bed. But I carry a 12" barreled 870 with a breacher grip when I travel between the border and Phoenix.

If I had to pick just one, it would probably be the 870 as I can change it pretty much at will. Very versatile platform.

870 police magnum 18.5 bbl 7 shot. 6 or 8 round side saddle, standard speedfeed stock holding 4 rounds.enough for multiple intruders, and not expensive enough to lose for the shooting investigation.i hate to be caught short of ammo.if your house is in the boonies,a shoulder bag with at least a 25 round supply of back up ammo till the cavalry arrives

Easy awnser since I only have one shotgun:

Winchester Model 1300 Stainless Marine 12 gauge pump, 18 1/4" barrell, 5+1, stoked with federal 3" magnum 15 pellet 00 buck, and 5 rounds of PDX1 on the buttstock sidesaddle.

What shotgun?

On duty have used and like Mossberg 500 and Remington 870 (the latter with which I also hunt ducks-geese-deer with different barrels). But like some have said, whatever you shoot a lot and are comfortable with. I like the pumps, but my wife doesn't, she likes the double barrel (her overunder or one of my SxS). Various loads kick differently, choose what you can hit and get back on target quickly (also, if you live in an apartment instead of a house, maybe birdshot vice buck so as not to penetrate multiple layers of sheetrock and whack a neighbor). :uhoh:

My HomeLand Security shotgun is a Maverick 88 with the 18-1/2" cylinder-bore barrel.

Why?

It is the shotugn I have "owned & operated" since 1990

500

i prefer the controls on a 500 over a 870 even though the 870 is probably a better over all gun its not like im personaly gonna wear out a 500.

Ithaca Model 37 12ga. Defense gun, 8 rd. capacity. For the "lefties" out there, it's bottom eject, and it takes about 20 minutes to swap the safety to left-hand operation.

Hello friends and neighbors // For many reasons it would be the Remington 870 Wingmaster my Dad bought me in 1976, a 12ga. MOD. w/ 28"VR barrel.

When hunting season is over just install the 18 3/4" HD barrel and tube extension.

I'd be giving up the 3" chamber and chokes of my newer 870s. The versatility of my Stevens 311 w/ 10" .22cal insert barrel. (the 311 can also be used as a black powder survival tool )but the last to go wold be my old 76 WM.

Im a mossberg fan, so either the 500 or 590 with 18.5" barrel. In an emergency I feel the controls and safety location are more intuitive than the 870.
