Just want to make sure that 150 gr .308 ammunition won't mess up my M1A. Any input?

Am I correct in assuming that my M1A can safely fire both 7.62x51 and .308? I very often hear conflicting information regarding this subject. So, what's the consensus?

Does anybody know if a pinned Noveske KX3 on a 12.5 inch barrel will bring it up to the minimum 16 inches? If so I'd love to do this on my next project. :D

I think I may postpone my purchase until after I see the results of your test, Walker. I'm very interested to see how well 1:7 stabilizes high quality 55gr bullets compared to 77gr.

Therein lies the problem: I don't know if I'm going to shoot heavier than 62gr. It seems likely that I will at some point, so I'd like a barrel that will shoot the widest variety of standard loads today. It seems to me that a 1:8 twist will do what I want the best. Am I correct in assuming...

I should mention that I shoot mostly 55grn, but would like to be able to shoot heavier and maintain the possibility to stabilize 55grn as well as possible.

The Leupold Mark AR line will come close to the 300 dollar mark if you look around. I have limited experience with AR-15's but I've got the Leupold Mark AR 3-9 x 40 with mil-dot reticule and it works great!

Just wondering if there's anything wrong with chrome moly AR barrels. I know they cost less than stainless or chrome lined barrels. Does chrome moly wear out faster? Is it less accurate for some reason? Just wondering.

Well, maybe I should clarify a bit more. The safety is stuck in the FIRE position, unless the hammer is cocked, then I'm able to switch it to SAFE. It makes more sense that it would be the other way around. Of course, I'm still a total noob to this though. :confused: EDIT: Never mind. Second...

I noticed that the safety on my almost complete AR will only function when the hammer is cocked. I have limited experience with AR type rifles, and don't know a whole lot about them (yet). Is this normal? Or should I go digging around inside the lower receiver and try to find out what is going on?

Well, I want to get a 16" barrel. I'm still having a really difficult time finding a place that has a decent barrel in stock, that isn't out of my price range (looking to spend a maximum of $250).
