Is a concealed carry permit worth it ?

I guess my response is a bit different than most. I got my conceal license a few years back when Ohio passed the law allowing them. Did the training and even became an NRA certified instructor and taught classes. Like many I avoided a couple tickets because of it. Fast forward a few years...

    Inexpensive long gun safe?

Last year a neighbor was broken into. They carried out his safe, a $400 6 rifle version he got at Dicks. He was sick over it. They crow-barred it from the wall he had it lagged to. That's when I decided to buy a used 6 rifle safe, el-cheap-o. Think I paid $150 for it. I keep an old dbl barrel...

Range Report. I need your help. (pics)

With that much spread at 50yds you just need a bunch of trigger time. Nothing more.

It's time to stop saying "Assault Weapon"

Always bothered me this terminology thing. It's a firearm, nothing more. Anything else and you’re just feeding the anti movement, like it, disagree, whatever.

Whats the best lie you had a gun seller tell you

I grew tired of Dealers wanting to look at what I was carring around the gun shows and then saying to me, after I gave them my price, "Bring it back around later and I'll make you a fair offer". The two times I went back they offered me half of what I eventually sold it for. Now when I walk...

First Gun Will Be In--Now Can't Find Ammo

You should be able to find some locally if not the web is your best bet. I usually buy ammo long before I get the gun. I think I must have some pre-ownership karma because every time I purchase a 1/2 dozen box's of ammo I always end up buy a gun for it.:D

Rant: Why Some Shooters Should Mind Their Own Business At The Range

In every CCW class I've held, around 200 students in total, where husband/wife, guy/girlfriend attended, I hear the same reaction when I say the words, "Guy's, because you shoot a large caliber gun there's no reason to assume she will be comfortable with it". The girls all chime in with "See...

Dumbest thing you've seen at the range?

A guy next to me shooting from bench's with a high dollar rife. Had the barrel resting on top of the bag. He couldn't understand why his groups were all over the paper. I suggested he might try moving them back under the stock for a few shots. He responded with, Na, that don't have anything...

    Ammo is all out!

I bought a ton of ammo 4 years ago. <----- not concerned with any shortages but might sell some if the price keeps going up. :D

Home Security, How Many, and Safes?

Attached garage, sure. Just remember what humidity does in a garage.

Home Security, How Many, and Safes?

It may not be your children that you need to worry about. It's their friends and their freinds, freinds that cause me concern and this includes adults. You have no idea who all knows about what you have in your home. Case in point. Several years ago I was introduced to a couple at a social...

    Never Fired?

Just one. A 60's Winchester 30-30. Only fired at the factory. :D

    best 22 lr ammo

As mentioned, buy a few box's of everything you can find and shoot them. Clean your barrel after each box to give the next test brand a fair chance. Keep the target at 50yds and your barrel will tell you which one it favors. Just an FYI, I always test ammo from a bench off of sandbags. If...

Gloomy topic: Will the recession increase suicides (specifically gun suicides)?

Morbid topic. Suicides accounted for 55 percent of the nation's nearly 31,000 firearm deaths in 2005. That is the most recent stat available as of late last year and I'm not finding anything about what is the preferred method. (My guess would be pills over guns.) That % will rise if...

when at the range why not let a few others shoot your stuff

50 yards 22/ subsonic target ammo, 1050fps. With a bit of humidity (haze) and a 36X scope the bullet leaves a vapor trail that is easily visable for the last ... just a guess... 10-15 feet before it hits the paper. It's a fraction of a second but no mistaking what you saw. It really is cool to...

when at the range why not let a few others shoot your stuff

Yep, that's what happened to me. Got into buying only accurate firearms. Big glass and I always start from the bench with a new purchase. Tweaking the average performing firearm into an accurate firearm is a challenge and the results are worthwhile. I always let (almost) anyone at the...

    Henery Lever Action....

I bought mine a couple years ago. Put a 4X scope on it cause the eyes arn't what they once were. Never a hitch with any ammo I've run through it. Action is as tight, well actually tighter than my Winchester 30-30 that was made in 61 and never been fired. "Buttery smooth" was on the...

    Opinions of Savage rifles?

I understand that years ago Savage was a lesser quality product. I hesitated buying one 2 years ago until I did some hands-on research. That statement above is no long true. They build a nice rifle today and have for at least the past several years. I bought one in .308 and .204 ruger. Both...

Need a high powered scope to push my .308 Savage 10FP

I found an old Jap Tasco World Class Plus mil-dot 10X40X50 for my 308 and love it. I thought it wouldn't stand up to the recoil but I haven't had a problem. This model was made before Tasco went to China. Mine was $300.00 and I was lucky to get it.
