    5.7 x 28mm brass coating

I resized my first batch of 5.7 x 28mm brass today. Some small patches of the coating that is supposed to aid proper action cycling peeled off. Is this enough to keep them from functioning properly/safely? See attached pic. Shiny spot near the bottom of the case.

Need Help From the Wildcat Loaders

Those who have spent any time on this site will know that the 5.7mm Johnson (a/k/a .22 Spitfire) round has been my "one-arm man" since I was in my twenties. It is the invention of Col. Melvin Johnson (of Johnson Machine Gun fame) whereby a 30 Carbine case is necked down to either .223 or .224...

    Back in the Reloading Saddle

The last time I loaded anything other than a handful of 9mm cartridges for immediate use was November 2016. Since then, I retired, moved to another state, rebuilt the loading bench I had as a teenager, unpacked everything and got set up again. I figured I got a little rusty, so I resumed...

The Last 5.7mm Johnson Post (maybe)

I am still working on reloading for a 5.7mm Johnson carbine. This is a 30 Carbine case necked down to 22. I bought the dies to form the cases from RCBS. The die set contains a 1) Forming die, 2) Trim Die, and 3) Full-length Sizer. Each of the three dies forms a part of the case shoulder and...

5.7 mm Johnson Die Issue (not 5.7x28)

Please excuse the length of this post. I have been attempting to work out a process and a load for the 5.7mm Johnson round (a/k/a 22 Spitfire). The round was developed by Col. Melvin Johnson - of Johnson machine gun fame. A similar round called the 22 Carbine also exists. In either case...

    Building a turnbolt

I have an opportunity to buy a barrel chambered in 5.7mm Johnson (my favorite wildcat). It is an M-1 Carbine style barrel with the integral short stroke piston. I don't have a carbine receiver to mate it with, nor would I necessarily want to simply build another carbine. Would it be possible...

    5.7mm Johnson

I post on this forum asking about the 5.7mm Johnson cartridge (a/k/a 22 Spitfire) in the hopes that there is someone out there who has experience loading it that is willing to share their knowledge. I have posted extensively on several firearms and reloading forums. I have posted on every...

    5.7mm Johnson

Since people come and go, I post this question about every six months or so, but is there anyone out there in High-Road-Land that has ever or is currently reloading for the 5.7mm Johnson (a/k/a 22 Spitfire) cartridge? If so, any help you can provide would be appreciated.

    Neck Reaming or Neck Turning?

I am one of the die-hards still trying to make the 5.7mm Johnson (.22 Spitfire) round work. The case is formed from .30 Carbine brass. The case is lubricated, run into a forming die that starts forming the neck. The case is then run into a trim die that also further forms the neck and then...

    Iver Johnson 5.7 mm Carbines

Recently, I came across a site dealing with commercial versions of the M1 Carbine. My attention was caught by this page dealing with carbines made by Iver Johnson: http://www.m1carbinesinc.com/carbine_ij.html I own an Iver Johnson Carbine (more specifically, a Plainfield Carbine made after...
