It looks like some prior vendors have gotten scared of 9mm 1/2-28 threads and are doing 1/2"-32 and 1/2"-36 exclusively. RRA no longer lets your order 1/2-28 threads and Smith has discontinued their 1/2"-28 version of the Vortex.

I just tested all mine. Some come close but no joy.

My suppressor only offers a 1/2" thread piston in 28 pitch so I need to go with a 28 pitch 9mm barrel. I'd love to have a self tightening design (like the Vortex) or at the very least a symmetric design (like the A1 birdcage and not the A2) so as not to worry about alignment and using a new crush washer every time I remove my suppressor and switch back to a flash hider.

Does anyone know what unit Lage uses because I know they use 28 pitch on their 9mm uppers?

Might I suggest a 1/2"-36 barrel and a 1/2-36 to 1/2-38 thread adapter. You'll have more choices in barrels and the adapter will only add about 1/4" to the OAL. Which is what I had to do for a GemTech HVT-QD mount on my M1S 7.62x39 AR carbine.

But I suspect you will have to bore out a 1/2x28 AR flash hider youself. If you remove the adapter with the suppressor then you could use any 1/2-36 9mm AR flash hiders.

See if you find one made for a 9mm pistol, which are pretty much universally 1/2-28. Lone Wolf has some compensators and thread protectors: http://www.lonewolfdist.com/Products.aspx?CAT=313 but I suspect your issue here will be the AR barrel threads being longer than what is usually used on a pistol barrel.

I believe Midway has a 1/2-28 thread protector for AR barrels for about $20, do you really need a flash hider on a 9mm?

The lone wolf units have a shorter threaded section and a colar section meant to go over the barrel. I think sortening the colar is the easiest.

As far as boring out a 223 hider, you would have to bore most of the length I don't know it the drill will wander when it is in the ribbed section. I'm thinking the lone wolf woulod be my best bet and it is A1 style.

A trick I've used in the past to drill "funky" holes is to chuck up an end mill of the right size in a drill press (if you don't have a milling machine). McMaster-Carr has a great assortment of end mills at very reasonable prices.

The price on the LW flash hider is pretty reasonable too.

Years ago some manufacturer used to market what they called a "match" M16 flash hider (1/2"x28tpi) that was already bored out, and a 9mm easily passed through it. I have one, but don't know if anyone puts them out now.

It's going to add about 1" as it needs to be a inline design not a nested adapter.

Sure looks like what he is asking for -- A1 birdcage flash hider bored out for 9mm. Hard to go wrong for $20.

I recently got some parts from delta3tactical, service was very good.

You're right, I mis-typed and failed to notice it, will add about 3/4" basically a bit more than the length of the 1/2"-36 threads. With my HVT-QD mount on it, its hardly noticeable.

But is that really an issue in exchange for opening up a lot more choices for barrels? OTOH if you've already got the barrel its moot.

I called Delta 3 last week. No response.

I found out Lage sells them for $15 and will pick one up tomorrow.
