I have in my tool box two AR-15 flash hiders (parkerized steel) from DPMS, one A1 type with 1/2" X 28 threads and an A2 type with 1/2" X 28 threads.

I have two 9mm carbines, a High Point 995 and a Beretta Cx4 Storm.

Can these flash hiders be used on these carbines?

If I wanted to put the flash hiders on the carbines, what would be the best way to go about it? Should I thread the end of the barrels? Is there enough barrel thickness due to the larger caliber bore? How much would a gunsmith charge to do this? Is there any legal issues? Do I need to increase the bore diameter of the flash hiders?

Or is my only option to just drill out the flash hiders to the barrel OD and use set screws? (I do not like set screw installations... they mess up the finish, can work lose, and look "toy" like to me.) I know that the manufactures offer "set screw" flash hiders for sale, but I don't like the look of those.

Can it be done?

Thank you for your interest.

Dan

I think your idea to use them is a good one, no reason you couldn't.

Personally, I'd thread the end of the barrels, I hate things held on with set screws, they tend to come off at absolutely the worst time. Additionally, I'd have a professional do the threading if you've never threaded a barrel before.

Legal issues depend on your state, several states enacted their own bans.

The guys over at the Maryland AR-15 Shooters Site can probably bring you up to speed on MD law.

Anyone done this?

Thanks Jack19 for the guidance. It does not appear that MD has problems with threaded barrels... this week.

Anyone else put a threaded flash hider/suppressor on their 9mm carbine?

Thanks again,

Dan

I have my own place and can shoot 24/7. I have shot my CX4 Storm in 9mm quite a bit after dark and believe that a flash hider is not a necessary functional addition. I will get more light from the chamber as the slowest burning powder finally ignites while the chamber cycles open to eject the spent case than I will get from the muzzle end of the gun. Interestingly, a good bit comes from the side to which the case is NOT ejecting and it comes out via the two slits in the off side ejection port cover.

You may want a flash hider becasue it looks cool, but as near as I can tell, it does not provide a functional contribution to the CX4 as virtually no light leaves the muzzle.

Thanks...

Thanks Double Naught Spy,

Yeah, the flash hider is just for looks. I too have not had a problem with overly bright flash from the barrel. The idea of adding a threaded flash hider now, might lead to a sound suppressor in the fiture.
Anyhow, I was hoping to find someone who may have threaded their barrel and could pass along any help. Still looking if anyone has experiences to pass along.

Thanks again,

-Dan

Thanks

Darkside,

Thanks for the lead. I'll try to get swingset to reply to this thread so the info can be shared.
