how about this, MI refused to give me a permit because im not a state resident.... how ever i am active duty military stationed in MI. they told me there was no exemption, i had to be a legal resident of the state
Ahellers: I think that under the soldiers and sailors relief act you are considered a resident of Michigan. Thats the reason you can purchase a resident hunting/fishing license. I've got a copy of it somewhere around here PM me and I'll get you a copy of it.
The station would not give me a permit unless I had a MI drivers licence. I told them I was Active duty but it didnt matter. They told me it had been brought up at some confrence down state, so I think its a state wide thing and not just local cops being unknowlegeable. Im in sault ste marie by the way
t
also makes me wonder... what if you dont have a drivers licence?
I'm stationed in the same town. So far in the Michigan statutes I've found the laws stating that military members stationed here are not residents when it comes to voting in the state, but we are residents as far as fish and game laws. I'm checking with both the sheriff and local P.D. because it seems really odd that I can legally buy a long gun (two in the last 4 months) but can't buy a pistol. One way to avoid having to buy the license would be to get a concealed carry permit. Today I am stopping at the local State Police barracks to see if there are any restrictions on me getting my CPL.
