I am sure this has been discussed many times, but I haven't been able to find it.

Anyways, a friend of mine has a basic stock 10/22 and his bolt is locked open. I have tried pressing the button near the trigger guard and fiddling with the bolt and I can't get it to close.

Any ideas? Thanks

Disassemble the rifle.

Pull the barreled action from the stock.

Pop the little pin from the rear of the receiver.

Then look to see what it's hanging up on.

Is the rifle new to him and are you familiar with the 10/22? Only reason I ask is because sometimes the bolt release can be tricky if you're not used to it. When you go to hold the bolt open, pull the bolt back and press towards the back of the button. To close the bolt, pull it back and press towards the front of the button and let it go. You may already know that but I just thought I'd start at square one.

I got it. I had been pressing the bolt stop button, but I wasn't pressing the forward part of the button which evidentally releases the bolt. Yep, I am familar with the 10/22, but I also learn something new every day. Thanks for the help and quick replies.
