Does the stock recoil rod in a 10/22 have any way to retain the handle, bead and spring? When I remove mine, the handle comes right off the rod, followed by the bead, and then the spring fully decompresses. Is that correct or should there be some retention mechanism, perhaps a flattened end on the rod or something?

I see lots of aftermarket rods with c-clips and other methods of retention, but should the stock rods have something or is mine normal? Makes it a little fiddly to put back together.

The end of the rod was preceded enough from the factory to retain the handle and follower. I have fixed them by some judicious re-peening. Pull the spring back and clamp a hemostat on the guide rod to retain the pieces till you get it peened.

Oh, I see. Yes, it is captive. Ok, thanks guys. I'm going to try to clamp the handle and peen it like kp has done. But in the mean time, I'll get a new one on the way. Thanks for the links.

I apologize for the incorrect information. I looked at several of mine and they are correct, it should be captive. Not sure what I was thing about.
