Can anyone think of a better choice than this for getting back into precision shooting:

I love crosshairs that help me avoid dials, so that a huge plus on any scope:

Illumination isn't needed. Flip up scope cap options are though.

This other Vortex might be better suited?:

People keep mentioning the good glass on the SWFA scopes. This one has more elevation adjustment, but normal crosshairs:

Thanks for any help. If it matters it'll most likely be going on a Savage .260 or 6.5 Creedmore or similar. Rifle hasn't been bought yet.

I have to decide between spending time and money shooting 3gun next spring, or doing IDPA and getting back into some long range fun instead. The latter seems easier, cost is about the same if I don't get out of hand with scopes and precision rifles.

to me its a very busy rectical, i use a good range finder and do clicks. once learned it may be quicker with a good spotter, just not for my old eyes. eastbank.

Yeah it is. A retical more like the SS 12x might be nicer:

All of my pistols have plain rear sights and bright fronts, so a clean scope picture might be best for me. I really don't know yet.

Either one of the Vortex is probably decent for the money, but for my tired old eyes 16x is really marginal at 1000 yards. I like at least 24x, and recently went to a 8-32, and don't feel like that's too much.

The answer is there's a lot of them. I use a IOR Valdada 10x40 and a 20 MOA base. I've actually shot this same scope at 1 mile and could see the target just fine. Also, you're gonna have to dial for that distance if you want precision. I'd recommend a less busy reticle, 20 in either direction is fine. For the clarity you get in a fixed power, its hard to pass on them over a variable powered IMO.

No idea, I just was supposed to drop some ladies email server there and return to mid-Ohio for my next mission. Still there now, waiting.......

Thanks on the 20moa scope ring tip. I'll look into it. Is Badger still good for scope rings? Or is there better?

Personally anything with more markings than a half mil scope is too busy for me too! I've got my eye on a Burris ffp half mil but it's a little over your budget line.....if you could spring the extra few hundred, it might be worth looking into....

I use Burris Zee rings on my 7 Mag that's set up for 1,000 yards. You can get inserts with 0,.010, and .020 offset. The floating inserts hold the scope well but don't leave ring marks. Self align.

Nice thing is that if you want to change offset, just pop off the top cap off the rings, slip in the different insert, and screw it back together.
