Evening THR!

I recently picked up a Remington 700 tactical in .308 and plan to use it as a paper puncher out to a maximum of 600 yards locally, and hopefully get the opportunity to reach out to 1000 at some point. (1k yards is not a priority).

I already have the base and 30mm rings, so my max budget for the scope itself is around $600. I've been looking at the SWFA SS 3-15x42 and the Viper HST 4-16x44. Any others I should be considering, and opinions/experience on the two I've listed?

Thanks all wise and powerful THR gurus!

This will be daytime work, right? If so, I'd also be looking at older Weaver Micro-Trac scopes on eBay. If they are in good shape, they are tough as nails, adjustable and repeatable. Should easily find one in your price range.

Or, a nice used Leupold :)

The vortex or SWFA will do very well and are affordable. I think they are your top bet for your budget.
The PST will have matched reticle and adjustments, as well as a basic zero stop. Even better they have a very usable reticle. All the ones I have had tracked well and adjustments were accurate. If you are are shooting any distance and want consistency make sure to get adjustable parallax. Customer service will take care of you as well should you need it.

Where ever you wind up buying make sure the seller is reputable. There are quite a few fake scopes floating around. Definitely do not want to wind up with one of those.

I particularly like the PST 2.5-10. Probably my favorite out of the whole bunch, especially if you dont need a lot of magnification. It seems to have much better glass than the others and the size is right for a "general use" rifle imo.
